Jailed: Deeney is serving 10 months

Watford striker Troy Deeney has issued an apology from prison as he serves a 10-month sentence for affray.

The 23-year-old was sentenced back in June after he pleaded guilty for an attack on a student outside a Birmingham nightclub.

Former Walsall striker Deeney, who netted 12 times last season, says he hopes to be given a second chance at Vicarage Road.

In a statement issued to Sky Sports, Deeney said: ‘I made a terrible mistake and I’m now serving my sentence for this.

‘I have apologised to the victim involved and I would also like to place on record my apology to the fans and players of Watford Football Club for letting them down with my indiscretion.

‘If the club decide to retain my services then I will give my all this season to help them achieve the goals set by the new management team.’
