This comes just days after it was revealed authorities know the cause of the 22-year-old star's death, but will not release those details until the criminal investigation into her passing is done.
She was buried beside her mother in New Jersey, three years after the singer's similar death, aged 48, in a bathtub in the Beverly Hilton.
When arriving at the Beverly Hills Hotel to collect the Legacy Award from the charity - which aims to aid at risk youths and to recognize others who share this vision - the actor appeared in high spirits.
The My Prerogative singer, who has been struggling to deal with his grief since his daughter's death in July, put on a brave face as he showcased his dance moves outside the luxurious venue.
He came with his second wife Alicia, who he married in 2012, and cut a dapper figure.
Striking poses and pretending to groove, the former New Addition frontman looked in fine form as he looked handsome in a blue velvet dinner jacket, black shirt, dress trousers and leather shoes.

His wife of three years, and the mother of his two-month-old daughter Bodhi Jameson Rein Brown, looked elegant in an evening black ball gown which featured semi-sheer lace detailing.
Teaming her halter neck gown with a pair of black stiletto heels, Alicia accessorized with a black clutch and an assortment of jewellery.
With her hair brunette hair tied back off of her face, she used a minimal pallet of make-up to showcase her pretty features - adding a flash of colour to her ensemble with a berry lipstick.
Later when Bobby was praised by Tommy Davidson, the star starting crying, TMZ alleged. El DeBarge, Tony Toni Toné and Barbara Morrison were also honored.

According to TMZ, a judge has ordered that the Fulton County Medical Examiner's conclusion about how the 22-year-old died must remained sealed.
The only daughter of iconic singer Whitney died in July after being in a coma for six months, following being found unconscious in a bath at her home in Georgia in January.
A tragic tale: The couple's appearance at the event came just days after more details are unfolding in the wake of daughter Bobby Kristina's death earlier this summer
The circumstances surrounding what happened to Bobbi Kristina in January have been the subject of an on-going investigation by police in Fulton County, and her partner Nick Gordon has been the focus of inquiries.
Gordon, 25, was served with a 'wrongful death' civil suit in August filed by the conservator of Bobbi Kristina's estate.
The complaint alleged that Gordon fed Bobbi Kristina a 'toxic cocktail' then placed her face-down in a tub of cold water on the last night she was seen conscious.

No criminal charges have been filed against Gordon, who has denied any wrong-doing - claiming that his so-called 'wife' just took too many drugs on January 31.
'Mom, I would never hurt anybody. I love people. I love babies. Everything!' an intoxicated Nick pleaded with his mother Michelle on the March 11 episode of Dr. Phil.
According to TMZ, the troubled gym enthusiast did check into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse following the Dr. Phil intervention.
Bobbi Kristina's estate first filed suit in June accusing him of assault, battery, causing emotional distress and stealing Bobbi Kristina's money. On August 7, the complaint was amended to include an accusation of 'wrongful death' following her passing on the August 3.
