Grammy-nominated country music producer Dave Brainard was beaten unconscious and left with a broken jaw and severe facial injuries by a couple in Nashville over the weekend.

Brainard, 40, was walking along Demonbreun Street with two women in the early hours of Sunday when a car struck his friend Deborah DeLoach at a crosswalk, say police.

The car - described as a gray or charcoal Infiniti - continued driving into the pedestrians until a woman emerged from the passenger seat, yelling at Brainard and his companions.

DeLoach told The Tennessean that the man who was driving the Infinity also got out and attacked Brainard.

According to Nashville Police Department, the motorist repeatedly punched the Nashville producer and choked him until he passed out.

DeLoach said she was assaulted by the female passenger, then the driver struck and choked her as well. The attack happened in the 1500 block of Demonbreun Street

Police who responded drove Brainard to a hospital, where he is expected to undergo a facial reconstruction surgery today.

According to his friend, Brainard, who is the founder of deciBel Productions, suffered a host of injuries, including a broken jaw, shattered teeth and lacerations to his chin and lip.

A friend of Brainard's (not pictured) who was also injured in the attack said their assailants initially struck her with their Infiniti at a crosswalk
