The stunning image pays homage to Elizabeth Taylor's iconic portrait taken by Helmut Newton in 1985.

The shot showed the legendary actress bathed in a Los Angeles pool bejewelled with an emerald Bulgari set and a pet parrot, which is replicated by Elizabeth in the new cover image.

The homage was the realisation of the magazine’s founder and editor, Kappauf.

He explained: 'I thought it was timely for Liz Hurley to return as cover girl, and when the opportunity arose to celebrate yet another British icon, Joan Collins, in the same shoot.

'I had the urge to reincarnate that iconic portrait, but have Joan Collins sit in what was originally an empty director’s chair.'

And during the run up to the first season of The Royals, Elizabeth told This Morning that she was inspired by Joan for her villainous, head of state role on the show.

'She's fabulous, she looks phenomenal and she is great,' said Liz of her iconic co-star. 'I was inspired a little bit by her and her part in Dynasty. She was the best villain on television.'
