Taking it back to the nineties! Tegan Martin almost spills out of her top as she channels screen star Sharon Stone at the Dally Ms

She's a red carpet regular and is used to getting dolled up in a frock, especially after taking out the title of Miss Universe Australia in 2011.

But on Monday night at the Dally Ms, Tegan Martin tried out a slightly edgier ensemble as she appeared to take inspiration from 57-year-old Sharon Stone's favourite red carpet look from the nineties.

The 23-year-old model wore a black billowing skirt and white crisp shirt with a deep neck to Sydney's Star City, and admitted to Daily Mail Australia she had someone on hand to help prevent any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions.

The shirt plunged almost to her midriff and she paired it with a thick black necklace and a sweet bracelet. The skirt was a-line in style and had a long train.

Tegan pulled her hair back and kept her fringe out for the occasion, and had a soft golden glow.

Her makeup included gentle foundation with smoky eye shadow, touches of blush and a pink lip.

She told Daily Mail Australia at the awards that she and her team 'wanted to do something a different,' and hence 'steered away from a traditional gown.'

'I love experimenting with my red carpet style,' she added.

Speaking about the the plunging neckline, she said someone had to accompany her on the red carpet in case of nip slip.

'I've never had such an outfit that I had to have someone come with me on the red carpet, so this is cool,' she told DMA.

WAG Terry Biviano who was reporting with Sydney Confidential, compared her look to Sharon Stone's 'gap shirt and Vera Wang skirt' she once wore years ago, but a 'younger, hotter version.'

Tegan agreed and said 'you know your stuff.'

Talking about 'dominant' contestants including Gina Liano and Richard Reid, she said the pair 'took me under their wings and loved me.'

'Which was really lucky,' she added. 'Because they definitely weren't two people I wanted to be on the wrong side of.

'I was fortunate enough to get out really, really easy on the negative friendship terms.'

Elaborating on 'the Gina show,' Tegan admitted The Real Housewives of Melbourne star could be rather outspoken.

'When Gina speaks, the whole room sort of stops. She is intelligent, she's well spoken, you know, no one else can shut her down,' Tegan said.

'She is Gina. She is fabulous. But yeah, unfortunately, it was a little bit difficult at times for us to be able to have input and do what we wanted when we had her ideas,' she explained.

'But overall, I think she is a really, really hilarious character and the show wouldn't be the same without her.'

Tegan also revealed she is set to clash with Mel Greig in an upcoming episode of the show.

'I don't want to give too much away about what happens, but we do a photo shoot that three of us should have been in, but Gina wanted to be apart of it, and it was just really hard to speak over Mel and Gina,' she said.

'I was the project manager so I just let it go in the end. But at the time, things got a little bit heated and I thought you know what, it's better I just let this go, because I want to win this challenge for my charity and that was the main reason I was fighting in the end.'
