She continued: 'Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson.'

The actress was living in Oregon, where she was an integral part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Twin Peaks creator David Lynch said in a statement: 'Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends — she was filled with love for all people — for her family — for her work. She was a tireless worker. She had a great sense of humor — she loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was a spiritual person — a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady,”

The actress was expected to appear on the Twin Peaks reboot.

It was during that film they came up with the idea that would eventually become the iconic Twin Peaks character, The Log Lady.

Catherine played her on the series as well as in the 1992 film prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

She was also set to reprise the character on the upcoming Twin Peaks relaunch on Showtime.

Among her other credits as a camera assistant, she worked on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Modern Romance, and Night on Earth.

Catherine also appeared in an episode of Portlandia, and in Lynch’s short film The Amputee.
