'Just call me the Right Reverend Hanks': Tom reveals he spent just $35 to officiate Allison Williams' wedding

He is the devout Christian who broke religious protocol to officiate Girls star Allison Williams' wedding.

And jolly Tom Hanks has now joked about the fact he paid a measly $35 for the honour of becoming an ordained holy man.

The Bachelor Party star said he is more than happy for people to start calling him 'Right Reverend' now he has officially taken the cloth at the cut rate price point.

Explaining how he ended up doing the honours, he told Extra: 'Well, here's what I did. I studied the ministry for over $35.

'And if you want to call me the Right Reverend Tom Hanks, I think you should.'

Tom, who converted to wife Rita Wilson's Greek Orthadox faith, but who has also dabbled in Catholicism and Mormonism, also said he is available to host other nuptials

The Turner And Hooch favourite said: 'I'm for rent. If you can afford the honorarium, I'll be there for ya.'

Tom, who was staying in the same New York building as Pope Francis while promoting his latest film Bridge Of Spies, said he was unhappy his fellow holy man did not cure him of his cold when he was there.

Explaining why they did not have a meeting, Tom said: 'He heard I was sick. But don't you think he could've cured me? He's the Pope, for cryin' out loud.'

On the subject of health, he also said wife Rita Wilson, who was with him at the wedding, is recovering well from breast cancer surgery, saying: 'Her health is fantastic. She took on not only the crisis, but also the issues of womens' cancers in a way that I thought was extremely brave and beautiful.'

At the big day itself, Allison, who is the daughter of highly respected newsman Brian Williams, looked radiant in a traditional white dress as she got hitched to her handsome 34-year-old beau Ricky Van Deen on Saturday in a star-studded ceremony in Wyoming.

Her MSNBC host old man, who infamously lied that he was riding a chopper when it was hit by RPG fire in Iraq, can definitely say he was there this time as he had the honour of walking his girl down the aisle.

Allison's CollegeHumor founder husband, who happens to be worth $35 million, looked dapper in a smart business suit.

Tom previously said he thinks deeply about the meaning of it all while sitting bored in the pews when he was promoting his film Angels And Demons back in 2009.

He said: 'I must say that when I go to church - and I do go to church - I ponder the mystery.

'I meditate on the, "why?" of "Why people are as they are," and "Why bad things happen to good people," and "Why good things happen to bad people."

'The mystery is what I think is, almost, the grand unifying theory of all mankind.'
