Total Eclipse! Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder can't tear their gaze away from the supermoon during romantic NYC stroll

Like much of the world on Sunday evening, Nikki Reed and husband Ian Somerhalder were excited to see the first super blood moon with lunar eclipse in 33 years.

The newlyweds were completely transfixed as they stood on a Manhattan street with necks craned, gazing up at the phenomenon.

The duo were dressed in smart evening attire as they had just attended the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) Champion of the Earth event at Cipriani restaurant.

Nikki, 27, wore a chic black and navy dress with towering stilettos as she linked arms with her spouse of five months.

The Twilight Eclipse star carried a leather circular shoulder bag and wore her brunette locks in a half updo.

Ian, meanwhile, looked sharp in a dark suit and tie and toted a couple of books with him.

During the event Ian took to Instagram to share a black and white selfie of the loved-up couple, saying: 'We're here! I'm rehearsing with my beautiful wife @iamnikkireed To host the #UNEPChampions Gala.

The passionate animal welfare activists make no secret of their love for creatures of all shapes and sizes as they regularly share snaps with their four-legged friends on social media.

And just over a week ago the couple attended Heifer International's Annual Beyond Hunger Gala and happily posed next to a llama on the red carpet.

Nikki and the handsome 36-year-old actor got engaged in January after dating for six months, and tied the knot shortly after on April 26.

It is the first marriage for Ian, who previously dated his Vampire Diaries co-star Nina Dobrev for more than three years.

Nikki had previously been married to American Idol alum Paul McDonald - in May 2014 - with their divorce becoming finalized in January, a few weeks before Reed and Somerhalder announced their engagement.
