'She's so far the first and only woman who has served as (Australia's PM),' Glamour Magazine editor in chief Cindi Leivi said, according to News Corp.
'She is, by the way, fierce.
'As just one example she was totally unafraid to take down a male opposition leader in front of parliament and the world for his sexism and misogyny. It's a great speech, Google it.'
Ms Gillard, who is a chair at the Global Partnership for Education, stood out on stage thanks to her bright pink Carla Zampatti suit that retails for $1,400.
She spoke in front of 1,000 school girls and women from more than 100 countries listening online for Glamour magazine's The Power of an Educated Girl panel.
The former PM told the young women to forget about criticism they may face online.

The panel also discussed the importance of education in developing countries with Charlize Theron saying it shouldn't be left up to the lottery of geography or gender
'We live in a world of instantaneous feedback and often it's instantaneous criticism. You don't have to be in a publicly exposed profession like politics to feel the sting of that,' Ms Gillard said.
'Some of the poison that goes across social media after midnight, when people have had a drink or two, that stuff is not constructive criticism. Just forget about it, don't let it get into your head, don't let it get inside you, so build that sense of self.'

'In my country, women are eight times more likely to be infected by AIDS than men, and what that tells me is that women are being left behind.'
Mrs Obama encouraged the young women to support her Let Girls Learn social media campaign as she urged them to focus on their education.
'There is no boy at this age that is cute enough to stop you from getting your education,' she said.
'If I had worried about who liked me or who thought I was cute at your age I wouldn't be married to the President of the United States.'

Meanwhile, fellow panellist, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron echoed their sentiments.
Looking smart in a monochrome Erdem dress, she said: 'There is nothing sexier than a smart woman. We have been told to live by a certain mold, especially women, and it's time to break it and it's up to us to do that.
'Stop waiting for men to do that, look in the mirror and see yourself and say I am sexy, I am attractive, I am smart, I am intelligent, I am powerful, I have a voice, I look cute in these jeans.
'Yes, I don't have long hair, I have short hair but I am still a girl and I'm still hot.'
