Floyd Mayweather faces a lawsuit after the mother of three of his four children sued him for defamation on Tuesday.

Josie Harris is asking for $20million (£13m) after claiming that Mayweather, in an interview with Yahoo last month, lied about her being on drugs during a domestic violence incident in September 2010.

Mayweather told interviewer Katie Couric that he was trying to hold Harris back during the altercation because she was on drugs.

Mayweather was arrested after police said he punched Harris in his Las Vegas home, where the couple were living with three children.

Fourteen months after the incident, he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery and two counts of harassment, according to CNN.

Though Mayweather was sentenced to three months in prison, he served two.

Harris claims that Mayweather began punching and kicking her as she slept on a couch in the home and dragged her around the house in front of the children, according to the lawsuit.

Mayweather, who is undefeated in his 48-match career, has denied beating his ex-girlfriend in the past.

'Did I kick, stomp, and beat someone? No, that didn't happen... Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did,' he told Couric last month.

'So if they say that's domestic violence, then, you know what? I'm guilty. I'm guilty of restraining someone.'

Harris filed the lawsuit, claiming defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress, on Tuesday in Los Angeles County.

The lawsuit claims that after the early-morning incident Harris went to the hospital, suffering cuts and deep bruises, and was treated for head, facial and bodily injuries.

She denies being a drug addict or abuser in the lawsuit and her attorney said that 'It was not Mayweather's 'restraint' of Harris that caused her serious injuries, rather it was his beating of her'.

Meanwhile, Mayweather has appeared to take a shot at Manny Pacquiao on Instagram after the Filipino complained of a shoulder injury after his loss to the American in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Pacquiao is being sued by two boxing fans who have filed a class-action lawsuit for failing to disclose a shoulder injury before his defeat by unanimous decision.

The 36-year-old will spend up to a year on the sidelines as he prepares to undergo surgery on his torn rotator cuff.

Pacquiao has blamed the injury for his defeat, saying that he could not use his right hand during Saturday’s bout at the MGM Grand.

Mayweather, who is unbeaten in 48 fights, posted: '19 years in the fight game and I've had one excuse: "Don't have an excuse". Winners win and losers have excuses.'
