She was modestly dressed in an elegant black number at the New York premiere of Freeheld on Monday.

But Tuesday was a different story for Julianne Moore, who grabbed attention in a sexy perforated black-and-red dress that flashed her legs.

The 54-year-old was beaming when she exited her hotel in New York City, showing off her shape in her sheer skirt that hung over her black strappy heels.

Julianne's fiery red hair was styled out in glossy and soft, full waves, while her famously youthful face shone with light pink blush and a slick of shimmering lipstick.

She finished off the cosmetics with a healthy coat of mascara, and accessorised the glamorous look with a black leather purse and a matching coat on her toenails. 

The photogenic Nine Months actress smiled brightly as she headed outside of the hotel, accompanied by a man that appeared to be her bodyguard.

As her grin indicated, the actress appeared to be in top spirits for her outing, and looked thrilled as a fan approached her with a pen and paper in hand.

Julianne has been busy lately as she promotes her upcoming film that also stars Ellen Page, Freeheld.

On Monday, the actress revealed during an AOL Build appearance that she was initially turned off by the opening of the script when it was presented to her, as it started off with a drug bust.

Julianne joked, 'I started to read it and I was like, "Oh no! It's a police procedural!" I thought, "I don't want to do that!"' 

However, after giving it go, the actress was moved by the film's love story.    

The film is based on a 2008 documentary, which chronicles real-life Detective Lieutenant Laurel Hester (Moore) as she fights for equality and protection for her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Page).

Julianne's character is dying from stage IV lung cancer and only has months to live as she fights for her partner to receive the same rights as those in heterosexual relationships. 

'I just feel so grateful to be a part of telling Laurel and Stacie's story,' Ellen said on the program.

'It's hard to wrap your head around how this could happen to a woman who spent her entire career fighting to protect the citizens of New Jersey,' she declared.

'Then as she's dying is being denied her rights and because she's in a relationship with a woman.'

Julianne has been married to director Bart Freundlich since 2003 and the couple have two children together.

'We have a very solid family life, and it is the most satisfying thing I have ever done,' she revealed to Harper's Bazaar.
