The warnings from Jose Mourinho were loud and clear. Star men axed, others left in London and still Chelsea were unable to find a solution to their problems.

Mourinho blamed attitude ahead of the game, but it was difficult to criticise their desire in Porto, where they simply failed to meet the standards required.

They were not awful, but they were not Chelsea. Certainly not the Chelsea of last season, an imperious winning machine, built in Mourinho's ruthless image.

21:35
FULL-TIME: Porto 2-1 Chelsea
21:34

90+1min: We are into three added minutes at Porto, and having now seen a replay of the penalty shout - it looks even more clear cut than in real time. Shocking decision by the officials and it could cost Chelsea big time.

21:33

90min: That should be a penalty for Chelsea! Costa played the ball across Marcano inside the box and the defender moved his arm towards the ball to divert it away.

Nothing given by the referee and Costa is unsurprisingly furious.

21:31

89min: Chelsea have the ball but look no closer to grabbing an equaliser as twinkle toes Imbula turns into an enforcer as he chops down Willian to pick up a booking.

21:29
Porto substitution

87min: Porto make their final change and it's another familiar face as former Southampton flop Dani Osvaldo comes on to replace Brahimi.

21:27
Elsewhere across Europe...

The goals are flying in across Europe! Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez have scored in the space of two minutes to give Barcelona a 2-1 lead over Bayer Leverkusen with eight minutes to play.

Roma have also pulled another goal back at BATE through Vasilis Torosidis - it's now 3-2 to the hosts.

Barcelona duo Sergi Roberto (left) and Luis Suarez celebrate the former's equaliser as Barcelona turned the game around against Bayer Leverkusen
21:25

82min: Now Porto hit the post! From a corner Danilo glances a header towards the back post but it bounces off the woodwork before Begovic punches away the rebound.

Danilo is then booked moments later for the hosts.

21:24
Porto substitution

80min: Oh that's just taking the Michael! Giannelli Imbula dances through the Chelsea midfield before Nemanja Mtaic brings an end to the shenanigans by bringing him down to pick up a booking.

Porto bring off Andre Andre and sen on Miguel Layun - who is on loan from Watford.

Porto keeper Iker Casillas talks with Chelsea's Diego Costa (right) during the second half
21:21
Porto substitiution

77min: Chelsea have at least improved since the double change as they chase an equaliser.

Aside from Costa hitting the bar and Ivanovic heading wide from a corner, it hasn't really looked like coming. Still at least it isn't wave-after-wave of Porto attacks anymore.

Porto send on Evandro for Ruben Neves.

21:16
Double Chelsea substitution

74min: Mourinho has seen enough as Nemanja Matic and Kenedy come on for Pedro and Ramires.

The Blues nearly grab an equaliser out of nowhere though as Branislav Ivanovic heads wide from a corner.

21:15

72min: Goodness me, Chelsea are getting hammered! Begovic is keeping the Blues in this as he saves from Vincent Aboubakar, while Brahimi is also denied.

It's open season in the Chelsea back four!

21:13
Elsewhere across Europe...

Good news for Arsenal fans as Alexis Sanchez heads home an equaliser for Arsenal. The bad news is Alfred Finnbogason has gone down the other end and fired Olympiacos back in front. Incredible! You can follow all the action on that game here.

Gervinho has pulled a goal back for Roma who trail 3-1 at BATE, while Zenit have retaken the lead against Gent through Oleg Shatov.

21:10

68min: Frustrations are getting to Chelsea as Cesar Azpilicueta is booked for pulling the shirt of Andre Andre.

Porto's Vincent Aboubakar (right) vies with Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic
21:08

65min: Chance for Chelsea as Hazard immediately gets involved. The midfielder skips a challenge by leaping over a sliding Maicon tackle, but from a tight angle he fires past Casillas at his near post into the side netting.

Maicon's tackle was actually very late, and Hazard would surely have had a penalty had he gone down. Credit must be given to him for staying on his feet though.

21:06
From Sportsmail's Pete Jenson at the Nou Camp

'Hernandez hooked after that miss. While at the other end Sandro misses his third chance of the game. Iniesta asks to be taken off with what looks like a muscle injury. This is real injury crisis now for Barca.'

21:04
Chelsea substitution

62min: Jose Mourinho has made his first change, no surprise to see it's an attacking one as Eden Hazard come son to replace Jon Obi Mikel.

21:00
Elsewhere across Europe...

Robert Lewandowski has now scored a hat-trick for Bayern Munich as they lead Dinamo Zagreb 5-0.

Junior MOraes has doubled Dynamo Kiev's lead at Maccabi tel-Aviv while Gent have equalised at Zenit through Thomas MAtton.

20:58
From Sportsmail's Pete Jenson at the Nou Camp

'Monumental miss from Chicharito at the start of the second half blazing over with the goal at his mercy.'

Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez (left) of Bayer Leverkusen beats Barcelona's Javier Mascherano to the ball
20:56

54min: Off the woodwork! Chelsea nearly hit straight back as Costa curls a beautiful shot across goal, but with Casillas stretching out at thin air, the ball bounces back off the underside of the bar and clear.

20:53
GOAL! PORTO 2-1 Chelsea

52min: Jose Mourinho looks on almost motionless from the touchline - maybe he is mirroring his defence.

From a Porto corner, all the Blues defenders are ball watching as Maicon nips ahead at the near post to glance a cheeky header home.

Maicon of Porto celebrates helping his side retake the lead against Chelsea
20:51

49min: Back up the other end and Porto also show attacking intent as Ruben Nevas curls wide of the top corner from distance.

I'm shocked to realise he is just 18-years-old, he has looked so comfortable in the Porto midfield this evening.

20:50

48min: Positive opening from Chelsea. Willian links up with Diego Costa inside the box, whose shot is blocked behind for a corner.

From OptaJoe
20:35
From Sportsmail's Pete Jenson at the Nou Camp

'Still not convinced Papadopoulous got anything on Calhanoglu's corner but all that matters is Ter Stegen didn't save it and Barcelona are 1-0 down at half time.

'Neymar diving, Sandro missing changes, and Busquets absent. Big job for Luis Enrique at half time. Messi a glum-looking spectator at a flat Camp Nou.'

20:34
From Sportsmail's Rob Draper at the Estadio do Dragao

'Hugely significant goal from Willian. Hadn’t had the best half, but that should allow Chelsea to regroup and recover.'

20:32
HALF-TIME: Porto 1-1 Chelsea
Willian's free-kick was the last touch of the first half and brought Chelsea an equaliser at Porto
20:32
GOAL! Porto 1-1 CHELSEA

Chelsea, having done next to nothing in front of goal, win a free-kick in first half stoppage time.

And Willian blasts a 25-yard strike across goal past a rooted Casillas in what was the final kick of the half - that will change the atmosphere in both dressing rooms.

20:32
Elsewhere across Europe...

David Ospina has dropped an absolute clanger in the Arsenal goal as Olympiacos retake a shock lead (click here for more) while Sofiane Feghouli has given Valencia the lead three minutes before the break at Lyon.

20:28
From Sportsmail's Pete Jenson at the Nou Camp

'Sandro (in for Messi tonight) misses his second clear cut chance. The ball comes back off the post from Neymar's shot and he blazes the rebound over.'

20:24
GOAL! PORTO 1-0 Chelsea

Well, well, well. What is this Chelsea team made of now? Brahimi cuts inside before forcing a brilliant save from Begovic, but on the rebound Andre Andre smashes home despite the Chelsea keeper's best attempts to get a hand on it.

20:24
From Sportsmail's Pete Jenson at the Nou Camp

'Martin Atkinson books Neymar for diving in the penalty area. And Ter Stegen has just saved from Bellarabi. It's rotten here so far for Barcelona.'

20:23
From Sportsmail's Rob Draper at the Estadio do Dragao

'Not a terribly good game this. But Chelsea have at least looked better in the last 15 minutes. Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas looks like the combination which might get them something.'

Mad moments at the Emirates Stadium as Theo Walcott equalises following an Olympiacos opener. Click here for all the details on that.

Meanwhile BATE now lead Roma 3-0, Filip Mladenovic grabbing a second, and Zenit lead 1-0 through an Artem Dzyuba effort.

20:16

30min: Porto are starting to get on top here as Maxi Pereira cuts inside before seeing his shot across goal deflect off Cesar Azpilicueta and out for a corner.

20:16

27min: More bookings for Porto, and again it comes from a reckless tackle as Ivan Marcano is cautioned for a late sliding challenge on Costa. Good to see Diego making friends again...

20:14
Elsewhere across Europe

Marc Andre ter Stegen is at it again. The Barcelona keeper was lobbed from 50 yards in his last Champions League match, now he has conceded from a Hakan Calhanoglu corner which was nodded home from close range by Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Another error from the Barca keeper.

Meanwhile Robert 'Captain Goals' Lewandowski is on the score sheet, netting twice as Bayern Munich now lead Dinamo Zagreb 4-0. Mario Gotze also getting in on the act at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski (left) celebrates scoring his team's second goal with Thiago Alcantara
20:08

21min: Why always Costa? Chelsea win a free-kick 35 yards out but before it is taken the referee is forced to delay the kick and deal with a confrontation between Costa and a Porto defender inside the box.

No red cards needed today, but more kicking practice needed for Willian whose set-piece only manages to find the sole Porto player standing in a wall.

20:05

19min: A first booking of the game and quite right too, as Bruno Martins Indi is cautioned for a terrible challenge on Pedro, sliding in to catch the forward on the ankle.

20:02
From Sportsmail's Rob Draper at the Estadio do Dragao

'Looks like Iker Casillas is saving his best for Mourinho’s return. Not convinced by this new-look Chelsea midfield yet.

'Porto much more aggressive and tenacious in that area of the pitch at present.'

20:01
Elsewhere around Europe...

Filip Mladenovic has now given BATE a 2-0 lead over Roma, while Bayern Munich are ahead against Dinamo Zagreb thanks to a Douglas Costa strike.

20:00

13min: Great chance for Chelsea! Costa's header plays in Willian who then centres for Pedro to run into the box. The forward attempts a low shot from 20 yards but Iker Casillas dives low to block the effort.

First goal of the evening has come in the other Group G fixture between Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Dynamo Kiev, Derlis Gonzalez plays in Andriy Yarmolenko who then fires the visitors ahead.

BATE also lead Roma 1-0 thanks to a Igor Stasevich strike.

19:53

7min: Top save from Iker Casillas, who is making a record 152nd Champions League appearance tonight.

Diego Costa cuts the ball back for Cesc Fabregas whose near post shot from 20 yards is well palmed away by the former Real Madrid keeper.

It's going to take some getting used to seeing him play for Porto.

Maxi Pereira of Porto attempts a sliding tackle on Chelsea's Diego Costa
19:50
From Sportsmail's Rob Draper at the Estadio do Dragao

'So Willian starts in the Hazard role, Cesc playing behind Diego Costa with Ramires and Mikel holding.'

19:49

4min: Back come Porto. Yacine Brahimi tests Asmir Begovic with a 20-yard shot while Vincent Aboubakar's through ball for Andre Andre (so good they named him twice) just evades the forward at full stretch as Begovic collects.

19:48

1min: The best and worst of Chelsea inside a minute. The Blues (in black) surge forward in the opening moments, picking out Willian on the edge of the box.

The Brazilian plays a squared pass across the box but it gets nowhgere near a team-mate as Porto break clear.

Out come the players across Europe...

Plenty of discussions and theories on Chelsea's team selection. But whether players have been dropped or just simply rested now's the time to find out if Jose Mourinho's bold call is the correct one.

I'm sure we have a rather intriguing 90 minutes coming up...

19:38
From Sportsmail's Matt Barlow at the Estadio do Dragao

'Since Mourinho’s return at the start of the 2013-14 season, John Obi Mikel has started only 35 games out of a possible 121 in all competitions for Chelsea.

'Decision to leave Falcao and Remy at home makes a point – but risky to have no centre forward on the bench when starting with a man with such unreliable hamstrings.'

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho looks on from the tunnel during the warm ups in Porto
19:32
From Sportsmail's Rob Draper at the Estadio do Dragao

'Hard to see Hazard and Matic dropping to the bench as anything other than a reprimand after Mourinho’s comments yesterday.

'Oscar, Willian and Remy not travelling, as reported on TV, is even more revealing. Clearly not impressing Mourinho at the moment.'

19:28
From Sportsmail's Pete Jenson at the Nou Camp

'La Liga has lost its sponsor after the bank BBVA announced it would cease to put its name to Spain’s top division at the end of the season.

'The bank has sponsored the first division in Spain since 2008. Anyway that’s enough about domestic matters, Barça need to get their first Champions League win tonight and they must do so without Messi against Bayer Leverkusen who have former Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez starting up front.'

Bayer Leverkusen players stand on the pitch at the Nou Camp ahead of their clash at Barcelona
19:27
From Sportsmail's Matt Barlow at the Estadio do Dragao

'Cesc Fabregas seems to be playing in a Rooneyesque head-protector. One stitch in a slight cut suffered in the game at Newcastle.'

19:25
Chelsea players are warming up at the Estadio do Dragao

So Jose Mourinho has picked a team based on freshness, so for the Blues' sake I hope they are bang at it this evening.

Chelsea are warming up now in Porto where it's just under 20 degrees still. Very pleasant for this time of year.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho states he has picked a 'fresh team' for Porto

'This is our most difficult game in the group phase,' Mourinho told BT Sport. 'They are our real opponents for first place in the group.

'I bring in two fresh players, [Jon Obi] Mikel and Ramires into midfield because Porto played Friday in the league and they had one extra day rest.

'I decided with a fresh midfield because this game will be intense. We are playing much better than the beginning of the season.

'We've had a good 15 days. I hope the first half at Newcastle was out of context. I'm happy with the evolution of the team.'

18:57
Some big calls from Jose Mourinho - but are they the right ones?

It's incredible to see Eden Hazard dropped from the Chelsea team, as Ramires comes into the side following his net-buster at Newcastle on Saturday.

Some may think Jose Mourinho has lost his marbles but the Belgian has looked lethargic for a while now, is it just a simple case of resting the midfielder who looks far from the player that fired the Blues to the Premier League title last term.
