Jenson Button swaps Formula One car for a Uni-Cub... so has the British driver found a new career if he is to retire from the circuit?

Jenson Button appears to have found a new favoured mode of transport ahead of his expected retirement from Formula One.

The 35-year-old British driver, who looks set to end his 16-year F1 career at the end of the season, was all smiles as he rode a Uni-Cub at Honda's headquarters along with team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Button, who took part in a cycling workout with his model wife Jessica Michibata, would have been disappointed if he was hoping to match the speed he usually goes around F1 circuits as Honda's personal mobility scooters have a top speed of 6km/h.

F1 car - Top speed: 413 km/h (unofficial record in 2005), estimated price: Over £6m

The Uni-Cubs, which are controlled in a similar way to segways - a new fad across the world, are yet to go to market as Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda continue to refine its design.

Button, Alonso and Co are currently gearing up for this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, which starts on Friday.

He retired from last week's Grand Prix in Singapore due to a gearbox problem in what was yet another disappointing race for the Brit.

The news of his retirement from F1 may well be announced as soon as this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix — at his favourite track, in a country he loves and from where his wife was born.

Sportsmail understands that Button is preparing to call time on a career that has lasted 16 seasons, yielded one world championship, with Brawn, and 15 victories from 278 races so far.

Doing so requires a gulp — Formula One is the only world Button has known since he was plucked as an unknown 19-year-old to drive for Williams.
