She is well known for her love of working out in order to maintain her fabulous figure.

So it came as little surprise that Naomi Watts opted to go for a run rather than put her feet up on her 47th birthday.

But after working up a sweat on the streets of New York, the actress did have one surprise in store, as she returned home to find a mariachi band performing on her doorstep.

The group of performers was no doubt a gift, possibly from her long-term partner Liev Schreiber or perhaps one of her celebrity pals.

The actress also received some more traditional presents on Monday, with a beautiful bouquet of roses spotted being delivered at her apartment.

Meanwhile, the star looked happy and relaxed as she jogged through the streets of New York with her headphones in.

Her tight three-quarter length leggings showed off her tin pins while she covered up her torso in a loose khaki top.

The star kept her blonde hair swept off her face in a ponytail while a pair of large sunglasses hid her famous blue eyes.

The Impossible actress also took to Instagram to gush about a set of hand-written birthday cards crafted by her young two children - Samuel, six, and eight-year-old Alexander.

But the next day, it was back to normal for the actress, who was spotted taking her two boys to school.

The British-born Australian actress and her American partner Liev Schreiber, 47, live in New York with their children, but are often on the move thanks to their busy work schedules.

The couple were spotted in Los Angeles earlier this month for the Emmy Awards, in which Liev lost out to Mad Men's John Hamm for the award of best lead actor.

Naomi too experienced a career setback when a The Sea of Trees, a film in which she starred, received boos from the audience at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Naomi is now gearing up for her next silver screen roles, including the drama Demolition and the psychologically thriller Shut, both scheduled for release in 2016.
