Justin Bieber has apologised to Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald for a physical altercation which saw his security guards toss the radio host into a fence at the Coachella festival.

The on-air Nova 96.9 FM funnyman confronted the 21-year-old pop star in an interview on Wednesday recounting the moment he was manhandled by his entourage in California in April.

'I'm sorry, dude,' a knee-shaking Justin told the 38-year-old Australian, who then promptly asked for a free backstage pass to next year's event.

'Easy enough,' the cap-wearing Canadian-born singer replied, looking embarrassed.

Appearing to back down, Ryan went on, 'I want to apologise for getting in your way, man.'

The well-known Aussie personality, who was at the festival for the show he usually co-hosts with Michael 'Wippa' Wipfli, was invited backstage to watch rock band AC/DC perform at the time.

A former professional Australian rules footballer, Fitzy stands at 6ft 6ins, significantly taller than Justin whose height is 5ft 7in.

Yet he insists Justin's people took him on, saying: 'We had an encounter at Coachella when AC/DC closed the night and I was backstage trying to get best vantage point.

'I was looking down at my phone and you were leaving and were in front of me.

'I had a backpack on and your security guard grabbed my backpack and threw me around into the fence.'

Pausing, deliberately, he took in a deep breath before asking for free back stage tickets to next year's event to which the diminutive singer eagerly agreed.

For his part, Justin explained that he, too, suffered at the hands of Coachella Festival security when they ejected him from pal Drake's gig.

'The are really crazy and we ended up getting in a little scrap and one of the dude, the security, choked me up a little bit,' Justin said.

'I talked to the security and they were profusely apologetic and said next year I'd be completely taken care of.'

A video obtained by TMZ appears to shows Bieber being put in a choke hold and escorted from the area.

It seems Bieber's erratic behaviour suddenly ceased though when he met Chris Brown.

'As soon as he was in the hanger with Chris Brown he was all cool about everything and calm and like smiling and dancing. It was like he was a different person,' the source said.

The drama unfurled when the singer and his entourage failed to show proper wristbands, but were told by bouncers the area was at capacity, according to the report.

Eyewitnesses told TMZ Justin argued with security and said he couldn't stand in a huge crowd without being swamped by fans but security told him to leave.

Bieber insisted that he was personally invited by Drake, had been waiting to see him perform and angered security by standing his ground, according to reports.

A staffer at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at that point came up to Bieber and said she would escort him inside the artist's area.

She grabbed Bieber by the arm and was walking the singer and his bodyguards inside, when festival security came up from behind and allegedly put Bieber in a choke hold.

Bieber's team tangled with security and the singer was then ordered to leave the festival.

Sources close to Bieber told TMZ that he voluntarily left and was considering taking legal action against the security guards.
