Acting fail! Oscar winner Julianne Moore is BEATEN by Jimmy Fallon as they play Box Of Lies on The Tonight Show

Julianne Moore despite being an Oscar winner showed on Tuesday that she isn’t always good at lying on command.

The 54-year-old Ask Alice star dissolved into giggles when required to be deceptive while playing a game on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Her bumble came during a game called Box Of Lies where she had to fib to the talk show host about the contents of several mystery boxes.

When given a framed photo of herself and Fallon with the words ‘Friends Forever’ she blundered through her lie.

‘It’s a wide…like, a metal paddle hairbrush with a silver handle and…’ she trailed off vaguely.

‘What’s going on? Are you having a stroke, are you OK?,' Fallon asked her.

‘OK,’ she said and tried again.

‘A large, paddle hairbrush, maybe for a person, maybe or for an animal…in…in like a knitted sock cozy,’ she blithered.

When questioned about the details of the object she immediately crumbled and burst into laughter.

‘Lies!’ shouted Fallon, who had managed to mislead Moore about the object in his box just moments earlier.

‘Maybe I should get an Oscar,’ he wisecracked proudly.

The game followed an interview in which The Hours actress discussed her new movie Freeheld.

The film is based on the true love story of a lesbian couple who fought for gay rights in New Jersey.

‘They are the people that paved the way for marriage equality,’ said Moore, 54, who plays Laurel Hester, a detective who is in a relationship with Stacie Andree played by 28-year-old Ellen Page.

Describing how she heard people in New York City discussing the movie when they ‘saw the poster’ she mimicked a layperson’s voice and said: ‘The lady from Boogie Nights is a lesbian with the girl from Juno’.

‘And my daughter thinks I have a fake laugh,’ added Moore, who was looking angelic in a white dress and black stilettos.

‘Then I loose my laugh… and I can’t even locate my laugh anymore,’ she continued, demonstrating her range of phony guffaws.
