Blake Lively to shut down her lifestyle website Preserve after just one year... but vows to return online with 'something stronger'

Blake Lively is shutting down her lifestyle website Preserve just one year after she launched it with much fanfare and a Vogue cover.

The actress, who's married to Ryan Reynolds, confirmed the closure in an interview with Vogue published Wednesday, saying the website will go dark on October 9.

The 28-year-old told the magazine: 'I know what it’ll look like, what I’m facing publicly, that people are just going to have a heyday with this. But it’s so much worse to continue to put something out there—to ask my team to put something out there—that isn’t the best we can do.'

The mom-of-one acknowledged that 'the only way I can prove all the negative reactions wrong is to come back with a plan that will rock people.'

'And I have that plan,' she added.

In the meantime, Lively reveals that she's got Taylor Swift's Shake It Off on a continuous loop to encourage her to keep going and give herself one more shot at making her website successful.

The former Gossip Girl star said she wanted to create a space intended to connect users with makers of things, experiences and stories.

Instead, she told Vogue, it had been viewed as a promotional tool for herself and her celebrity.

'We launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission: It’s not making a difference in people’s lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way,' Lively said.

She continued: 'I never thought I would have the bravery to actually do that, to take the site dark and to say, ‘You know what? I haven’t created something that is as true and impactful as I know it can and will be. And I’m not going to continue to chase my tail and continue to put a product out there that we, as a team, are not proud of.’'

Preserve was launched in July 2014 to mixed reactions.

While the star described her Internet offering as 'a sort of greatest hits of Main Street, USA,' some critics scoffed at the high-priced artisan artifacts featured for sale.

They included a $95 Porter Cycling wooden crate, a crystal bowl for $450 that Lively said would bring 'beauty, imagination and warmth to those who welcome these captivating crystals into their home', as well as a $140 Butcher's Apron, a $110 Bistro Apron and $10 artisan salt.

The design and look of the website also came in for some harsh criticism.

'It looks like a promotional website for a horror movie in 2005,' said New York Magazine.
