She shaved her head to portray the role of a cancer sufferer in her new film Miss You Already.

And Toni Collette has revealed that she didn't think twice about undergoing the dramatic physical transformation, saying she was prepared to do anything for her character Milly.

'It was something Milly went through and it was the least I could do, really I would have done anything for this film,' she told news.com.au on Friday.

The actress spoke about how playing the role as authentic as possible meant shaving her head to get it right.

'I just love the story so much and I think it's very special and very realistic and relatable and I just didn't want to fake any of it,' she confessed.

The star, who has shaved her head five times now, says she finds the experience 'quite cleansing.'

Toni stars alongside Drew Barrymore in the movie, which tells the story of two best friends whose friendship is put to the test when one falls ill.

The film follows the pair as they navigate through the hardships of adult life.

During filming the duo developed an extremely strong bond with an undeniable on screen chemistry, and have remained close friends since shooting wrapped.

The pair's close friendship has been apparent during the promo tour of the movie, during her time on Australian talk show The Project, Drew described her 'electric connection' with Toni.

'Our kids became friends and they're still best friends, and we've traveled together and we had the electric connection and we got lucky,' she said.
