A Gold Coast woman has told her terrifying story of hiding in a butcher's shop cool store while being chased by an angry driver.

The ordeal began when the woman, aged in her 50s, was walking over a pedestrian crossing near the Harbour Town shopping centre in Biggera Waters.

She recalled telling a motorist to 'get lost' after he sped towards her in an old car, beeping, screaming and yelling, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

He then jumped out of his car and pursued her on foot.

None of the people she ran past as she fled helped her, she said.

Desperate for help and knowing staff at her local butcher's shop would aid her, she made directly for it as the driver followed.

In her description of the man given to the Gold Coast Bulletin she said he 'looked like he was on ice and just ice crazed'.

Once inside the butchers, whom she said were 'heroes' and 'could have saved my life', she was hidden in a cool room while they waited for the driver to leave.

Eventually she was accompanied to a taxi by security in case the man was still in the area.

A Queensland police spokesman told the Daily Mail the incident had been reported, but a lack registration number for identification made it hard to follow up.

However, if further similar incidents were to occur police could build up a profile to try to find the man.
