Whoops! ABC apologizes after airing footage of the WRONG Indian actress during segment about Quantico star

  • ABC's 'Nightline' included video of Bollywood actress Yukta Mookhey being crowned Miss Universe instead of Priyanka Chopra
  • Chopra, 33, is the star of the network's new drama Quantico about FBI recruits
  • 'Nightline' apologized to Chopra for the mix-up on Twitter after viewers pointed out the error
  • Chopra's interview on 'Nightline' focused on her struggles with racism and prejudice

ABC's 'Nightline' went into damage-control mode Tuesday night after mixing up new network star Priyanka Chopra with another Indian actress.

The news magazine aired a feature earlier this week about Chopra, the star of ABC's new drama Quantico. A video shot supposedly showing Chopra in the Miss World pageant was included in the segment, which ironically focused on how the Indian actress has been dealing with racism and prejudice throughout her life.

But the video was of Yukta Mookhey, who won the crown in 1999. Chopra was the 2000 Miss World winner.

The error was noted online by viewers, one of whom wrote in the comments section: 'Do all Indians look the same to you? Dealing with race issues indeed.'

ABC responded to the criticism with an apology and posted a corrected version of the 'Nightline' story online.

Chopra, 33, a Bollywood star who plays an FBI recruit in Quantico, responded to the mix-up on Twitter by posting 'LOL' and linking to another post that read, 'Uh oh, @Nightline!'

In a follow-up tweet on the subject, the striking brunette beauty wrote: 'All brown people don't look the same..'

Mookhey, 37, is divorced and has a son. Following her 1999 Miss Universe win, she embarked on a career in show business, appearing in a half-dozen tepidly received Bollywood films.

Quantico premiered on ABC Sunday night. The one-hour drama stars Chopra as aspiring FBI agent Alex Parrish who is suspected, along with other young recruits undergoing training at the Virginia base, of masterminding a terrorist attack.

In the 'Nightline' interview, Chopra talked about how she has been subjected to bullying throughout her life, beginning when she was in high school.

Even as an adult, Chopra told 'Nightline' she faced ugly remarks about her supposed foreignness.

When Chopra was named the official voice of Thursday Night Football for the NFL in 2013, the Indian actress became the target of racially-charged comments.

'There was a lot of these terrorist comments that called me an "Arab terrorist,"' she recalled. 'I was offending on two accounts: one, why is every Arab a terrorist? And second of all, how am I an Arab? I'm Indian.'

She concluded the interview on a philosophical note, saying that she's been in the business long enough to know that 'you can't please everyone.'
