Virtually Useless

Half the documents won't open, discussion board posting is almost completely out of the question if it does ever load the actual board, and the gradebook is never consistent with the full site. Oh, not to mention getting kicked out once or twice a day and asked to purchase access only to revisit the app later and suddenly no longer needing to pay. I would take these issues up with support, but it is impossible to reach them. I spend a decent amount of time carefully explaining my issue, hit send and I am re-routed to a page that says my e-mail wasn't forwarded because they think my problem could be fixed by reading some FAQ answers. 😐 Right. Because I didn't read through those before sending my e-mail. The page never properly loads either so I can see the answers that they think will help me but never get to hit the button to send my e-mail. This app is a joke, Bb doesn't seem to give a crap whether it works or not. Not that they could ever troubleshoot issues since they don't get e-mails...

UPDATE: After weeks of having to delete and re-install the app every time I used it just to get it to load, I deleted it for good and now just use the browser on my respective devices to access Blackboard.

Okay app with a lot of potential to be great

I would rather use the non mobile optimized version of Blackboard than use this app. If Blackboard is going to restrict mobile access to using the app, they should make it mobile friendly and functional. Many of the pages (especially the discussion board) appear as they do on a computer, meaning that they are not optimized for mobile or formatted to be user friendly (unless you have tiny, deformed fingers).

A few things which would make this app really something good would be an alert system that took you right to the assignment in question, optimization of the discussion board for mobile (BaconReader for Reddit does an excellent job of this, you could take their example), a "remember me" feature for logins, and consistency with grade postings, as different reviewers have mentioned. Blackboard in general could do with a more intuitive system, less cluttered UI and more features when it comes to grades (maybe a grade calculator? Doesn't seem too hard to implement. Another idea I had was filtering of grades for if then scenarios).

Useful but not useful enough

I'm glad my university uses blackboard because I don't have any problems with it really, and it's nice to have access to syllabi, study guides, notes and grades all in the same place. This app doesn't have everything available you can do on a PC (i.e. Opening up PDFs or taking quizzes through blackboard), but that's understandable because they are different types of operating systems. Basically, I just love having quick access to syllabi so I can double check due dates and class topics. I do have a problem with the editing tool on the home screen, where you can change the order, name, and color of your courses in the list. Because of formatting issues or something, there's a bug that stops me from being able to use the orange or blue option, because the bar to move the courses up or down is on top of those colors. Small detail but it bugs people that use color and order to organize.
