'I feel intimidated by marriage': Lena Dunham says she's not ready to wed beau Jack Antonoff despite saying they'd marry when gay marriage is legal

She recently interviewed presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, and has two Golden Globe Awards.

But Lena Dunham admitted there is one thing that intimidates her...the idea of marrying long-time love Jack Antonoff.

The 29-year-old Girls star spoke to Ellen DeGeneres, for broadcast on Friday, and confessed that she has delayed walking up the aisle with her boyfriend because she feels the pressure for the day to be as good as a gay wedding.

Lena and Jack - who is the lead singer of the band Fun - famously said that they would get married once gay marriage was legalised.

In March she explained that she wouldn't marry her partner of three years 'until that's something that everyone can join into with no sense of being left out on any level, politically, emotionally, it's just not something that we're gonna do.'

But joking on Ellen's show on Friday, Lena explained that once gay marriage was made legal, the heat was on her to keep her side of the deal.

She told the host: 'We were thrilled, we were celebrating. And then suddenly the texts just started coming from our friends, from our mothers, from our exercise instructors. Being like finally it’s your time. And we kind of looked at each other we were like, "oh God what have we done?"'

She continued: 'We were hiding behind fake liberal ideals! No we, marrying, we were like those were our beliefs, but then we were like we’re not gonna suddenly just get engaged because it became legal we better wait for a moment where we feel excited about this and I’m excited to marry him at some point, but it felt like a lot of pressure to just go for it that day.

'I did start to ask are there a lot of heterosexuals using this as an excuse to avoid commitment.' she added.

The Not That Kind Of Girl author explained that she already feels committed to her beau.

She said: 'Because I mean we own a dog together. We own a home together, but the marriage thing is a big deal.

'And I also have to say I feel intimidated because I don’t want to espouse any stereotypes, but gay people are kind of killing it at weddings right now they’re kind of winning at weddings. So I don’t want to go in and kind of pale in comparison.'

'And she was DTH - down to hang.'
