Delta Air Lines flight from Baltimore to Atlanta delayed after escaped TARANTULA was spotted by baggage handlers
- Flight from Baltimore to Atlanta was grounded after spider spotted by crew
- Airline spokesperson insists that tarantula was 'not in the passenger cabin'
- Nevertheless, the captain ordered for a change of planes as a precaution
Although it may seem like the beginning of a far-fetched Hollywood movie, passengers travelling on Delta Air Lines on Wednesday were delayed due to an escaped tarantula.
Flight 1525 was meant to take off from Baltimore at around 7pm on September 23, but was grounded for nearly three hours when baggage handlers on the ground noticed a baboon tarantula out of its carrier case.
The captain then ordered that the aircraft should be held in Baltimore overnight to ensure that no more spiders had managed to find their way onto the plane.

'It was not in the passenger cabin and customers were not on the aircraft when the tarantula was discovered,' Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said in a statement to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta.
'The captain came to the gatehouse to notify customers of the situation and assure them that another aircraft would accommodate them on their way to Atlanta,' a spokesperson for the airline told MailOnline Travel.
All in all, the new plane took off several hours after the flight's originally scheduled time, landing in Atlanta at 11.47pm.
'In fact, crew were able to capture the tarantula immediately after spotting it in the cargo hold,' the spokesperson added.
'However, as a precaution, we decided to ground the aircraft for inspection.'
The baboon tarantula is a species native to East Africa and is popular among spider collectors.
Usually rusty brown or even orange in color, the king baboon spider can grow up to 20cm in leg span.
