He killed at least 9 people on Thursday and wounded seven, after asking if many of them were Christian. Harper-Mercer wrote in a post in August how much he admired Vester Flanagan, the Roanoke shooter who killed a cameraman and newscaster at the station where he had been employed. 'On an interesting note, I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are. A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone,' wrote Harper-Mercer of Flanagan. 'His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight.' Damon gives a suitably stellar performance, one that might well be recognised when awards season comes round. It's hard to think of anyone who could handle this part, as a kind of unique everyman, with more aplomb.
