'Here's the first bite of my churro; here's the second!' MLB announcers mock sorority sisters taking selfies during Arizona baseball game in scathing rant live on air

A group of sorority girls completely stole the show at the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game on Wednesday night, taking so many selfies in the stands that the male announcers began mocking their behavior in a lengthy, and vitriolic rant.

As the team took on the Colorado Rockies at the Phoenix stadium, a MLB.com camera caught the ladies - who attended the game by the dozens - snapping photo after photo of themselves in their seats.

'Do you have to make faces when you take selfies?' asked one of the announcers as the Alpha Chi sorority sisters from Arizona State University made duck faces and stuck their tongues out while posing for the Instagram and Snapchat pictures.

'Look at the one on the right!' the other commentator remarked as one of the girls made a bizarre facial expression. 'Oh, one more', he added as she took an additional photo.

And the announcers didn't stop mocking the sorority girls there.

'Better angle', one said as another girl snapped a second shot with her friend, adding as they examined the photo: 'Oh, check it, did that come out ok?'  

'That's the best one of the 300 pictures I've taken of myself today!' cracked the second announcer.

Becoming exasperated by the girls' selfie-taking, the commentator observed: 'Every girl in the picture is locked into her phone. Every single one is dialed in.'

'Welcome to parenting in 2015!' he joked, adding: 'They're all just completely transfixed by the technology.'

Soon, the college students started using props in their photos, posing with the snacks they bought from the stadium's concession stand.

'Hold on, gotta take a selfie with the hotdog,' joked one of the announcers.

The other one admitted: 'I can't even get my phone to take pictures!'

'Here's my first bite of the churro. Here's my second bite of the churro,' the first commentator narrated as the girls continued to pose with their snacks.

'You know, the beauty of baseball is that you can sit next to your neighbor and have a conversation. Or, you can just completely ignore them!' said the announcer, who simply could not understand the girls' activities. 

At one point, a Rockies player hit a single, drawing the announcers' attention back to the game.

However, seemingly more interested in the students' selfie-taking, they quickly returned to the girls.

'And nobody noticed,' the announcer reported as the students continued to take photos on their phones, completely unaware of the play that had just been made.

Finally, not being able to take it anymore, one of the commentators asked: 'Can we do an intervention?'

He proceeded to suggest that they send the Diamondbacks mascot, Baxter the Bobcat, to approach the girls in the stands and take their phones away from them. 

And while some people have praised the commentators for their 'witty' repartee during the game, others have condemned their comments as 'cruel' and 'unnecessarily mean'.

'Dear newscasters: Welcome to the year 2015!' Cosmopolitan.com writer Danielle Tullo said in a piece on the subject. 

'Where taking selfies with your friends is as normal as waving hello to them. In a world of rainbow vomit Snapchat filters, how can you not selfie everywhere you go? These girls are all of us.'

The Diamondbacks ended up winning the game 3 -1, but it's not clear whether the girls were aware of this.

They shared their baseball selfies on Instagram throughout the night, captioning their photos with their sorority hashtag, 'asuaxo'.

One girl wrote beneath a shot of herself and her sorority sisters: 'A blonde and a brunette make for a great baseball game.' 

Another student posted a photo of herself and her pal enjoying sweet treats, captioning the picture: 'We only went for the ice cream and the selfies.'

After catching wind of the game's main event, the Diamondbacks got the ladies to take a selfie for the team's social media accounts.

'Yep, we got the experts themselves to take a selfie on our Snapchat!' they captioned the picture, which shows the entire sorority posing together in the stands. 

The girls were later offered free tickets to Thursday night's game by the Diamondbacks and Fox Sports, but decided to donate them to a local charity instead.

After thanking both organizations for the gesture on the their Facebook page, the sorority wrote: 'We have asked the Diamondbacks and Fox Sports to provide tickets to a future game for families at A New Leaf, a local non-profit that helps support victims of domestic violence.'
