Andy Reid to lose out but Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni plays down talk of a rift

Andy Reid looks set to miss out for the Republic of Ireland against Cyprus tomorrow (Wednesday) but boss Giovanni Trapattoni denies he has a problem with the Sunderland man.

Steven Reid is injured and Trapattoni hinted the Blackburn midfielder's place will go to either club-mate Keith Andrews or Manchester United's Darron Gibson.

There were rumours of a bust-up between Andy Reid and the boss last month but the Italian denied there was a rift with the former Tottenham and Charlton midfielder.

He said: 'I don't have any problems with anybody. I choose thinking about the interests of the team.'
