OJ Simpson 'contemplated killing himself in Kim Kardashian's childhood bedroom' after he was accused of killing his ex-wife just hours before his car chase with police

  • Ex-NFL star had taken refuge Robert Kardashian's Los Angeles home
  • He was accused of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman
  • Kardashian Snr walked in to find Simpson recording a 'suicide tape'
  • Former athlete told the attorney: 'I'm going to kill myself in this room'
  • 'You can't. This is my daughter's bedroom', Kardashian said in response

OJ Simpson contemplated suicide in Kim Kardashian's bedroom when she was just 14 years old, it has been claimed.

Reality star Kim was staying with her father Robert, who was part of the NFL player's legal team and a longtime friend, in June 1994 while he took refuge in the attorney's Los Angeles mansion.

The athlete was hiding after being named the prime suspect in the murder his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman five days earlier.

Kardashian Snr, the already ex-husband of Kris Jenner, reportedly found Simpson sitting in 'Kimmy's' room, recording 'a suicide tape', just hours before he staged the car chase that was watched by millions of people on live TV.

Lawrence Schiller, the author of American Tragedy: The Uncensored Story of the O.J. Simpson Defense, told ABC News 20/20 that Kardashian warned Simpson not to do it.

In a pre-recorded interview the father-of-four, who worked as Simpson's legal adviser, described what happened in the bedroom.

'O.J. said, "I'm going to kill myself in this room," and I said, "You can't. This is my daughter's bedroom. My little girl Kim sleeps here. I can't have my little girl in this bedroom, and every time I come in here, I'm going to see your body lying in this. You can't do that.'"

Kardashian, who had split from Kris Jenner in 1989, acted as an adviser to Simpson’s legal team led by Robert Shapiro.

After a highly televised 16 month criminal trial, Simpson was acquitted of murder in 1995.

The murder and ensuing trial pitted Kris against Robert, as she had been a best friend to Nicole. The couple's four children, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert Jr, have spoken to varying degrees about feeling they had to choose between their parents because of the OJ murder trial.

Twenty years on in a new documentary, Jenner has reflected on what she could have done to save her late best friend.

The 59-year-old appears in new LMN documentary The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story, in which she recalls how Nicole would share her fears that the football star and actor could hurt her.

‘At the end of Nicole's life, I think she finally was at a place where she knew she had to be more vocal with what was going on and she was in trouble,’ Kris said, according to ABC News.

'The one thing she would tell all of us by the time, you know, it got to that level was, “He's going to kill me and he's going to get away with it.'

Kris didn’t take the threats too seriously, and she admits she feels guilty about not doing more to try and help her friend.

‘I will always feel guilty that I didn't pay more attention and didn't speak up when I thought anything was wrong or asked her more, “Do you want to talk about it?”’ the reality star shared.

Kris’s late ex-husband Robert Kardashian was O.J’s close friend and defense lawyer.

In her 2011 memoir Kris Jenner… And All Things Kardashian, the star recalled when she first learned that Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman had been murdered.

'I instinctively knew that in some way O.J. had something to do with her death,' Kris admitted on the pages of her book.

O.J. was ultimately acquitted in the murder case, but later found liable in the deaths of Nicole and Ron in a civil lawsuit brought by their families.

O.J. was later convicted and sentenced to 33 years in a Nevada case involving the theft of his own sports memorabilia.

Two decades after the trial of the century, a true crime anthology TV series about it is currently in the works.

American Crime Story will air next year, and sees Cuba Gooding, Jr. as O.J., while John Travolta plays his famous attorney Robert Shapiro.

David Schwimmer will portray Robert Kardashian, and has been talking to Kris to get tips on how to play the lawyer.
