Shinawtra gets the boot as new City owners clear the board

Former owner Thaksin Shinawatra has lost his place on Manchester City’s reshuffled board after the £120million takeover by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak, confirmed as the new chairman, brings in New York property lawyer Martin L Edelman, expected to be at the heart of negotiations for the proposed £300m development of land at Sportcity. He specialises in complex property transactions.

Thaksin and the family members he installed at City are swept aside along with Brian Bodek, a director since 2000 who had hoped to stay on.

It is unclear whether Thaksin, thought to have made around £20m on the sale, will be offered an honorary title at City.
