She's a doting mum to two beautiful girls.  

And Alyson Hannigan, who is mum to Satyana Marie, six, and Keeva Jane, three, was running around after her little ones when she stepped out in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The 41-year-old actress cut a low-key figure as she arrived at her daughters' school with a box of live baby chickens.

The How I Met Your Mother star was dressed down for her parenting duties and teamed a white and navy polka dot shirt with low-slung ripped jeans.

Dressed for practicality rather than fashion, she wore some colourful ballet pumps on her feet and wore a large black and burgundy quilted hand bag slung over her shoulder.

She shielded her eyes from the sun in dark, oversized sunglasses and wore her signature auburn hair in a blunt bob.

Alyson appeared to be in good spirits as she got out of the driver's seat of her car and collected the delicate box labelled 'live animals'.

The striking redhead, who is married to her former Buffy The Vampire Slayer co-star Alexis Denisof, 49, spoke recently about their unusual choice of baby names.

She told Yahoo Parenting that they were toying with the name Madeline during her first pregnancy but struck it off the list when they realised how popular it was.

She continued: 'As the pregnancy progressed, the ideas became unique. I loved Satyana but we didn’t name her for four days because we were debating over how to spell it. I finally said [to Alexis], ‘We have to name her because I am tired of calling her baby girl."'

She said the pair had no problems deciding on Keeva, a Gaelic name, because it resonated with them right away.

Asked whether she would ever allow her daughters to watch her in American Pie, she replied: 'I will have to sit down and have a conversation with them before they go to high school.'
