Lena Dunham sends a clear message in womb-motif jumper as she shows her support to Planned Parenthood conference following controversy

She's not one to keep her viewpoints to herself.

And Lena Dunham made her message loud and clear as she stepped out to a Planned Parenthood conference in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday, which supports a woman's right to choose when it comes to birth control.

The Girls actress turned heads as she posed on entry to the Pacific Design Center dressed in a jumper which featured a knitted womb motif.

Lena, 29, was attending the Politics, Sex and Cocktails event which was hosted by Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County and she appeared to have dressed a little too literally for the occasion.

The Not That Kind of Girl author teamed the deep red sweater - designed by Rachel Antonoff - with a black pleated leather skirt which was cut above her knee and a pair of black and white court heels.

The only accessory she needed was a decorative jewelled necklace and a bucket load of confidence.

Cozy up in a sweater by Rachel Antonoff

Lena Dunham is no stranger to a statement. Fitting then, that she turn up to the Planned Parenthood conference in a jumper featuring a womb motif.

Designed by longtime friend and collaborator Rachel Antonoff, you could assume it was made with Lena in mind, who opted to wear the burgundy knit with a metallic blue pleated skirt and elegant pumps. The Girls writer, producer and director looked sophisticated and ready to speak her mind.

The color itself is oh so trendy; one could even call it the color of the season, seen on plenty of catwalks back in February. Although the jumper is sold out, you can always stay warm in one of these sweaters from Le Mont St Michel, Topshop and Forever 21.

Lena's appearance came amid claims the non-profit organization sells aborted fetal tissue for profit.

Planned Parenthood executives were supposedly seen discussing the sale of aborted body parts in a series of videos released by anti-abortion activists in recent months.

The actress-writer-producer is leading the woman organisation's social media campaign, entitled #StandWithPP.

'I #StandWithPP. Change your profile pic and show your support for reproductive health and rights,' she tweeted on Tuesday.

Lena was speaking at the event and no doubt discussed the recent media storm surrounding the company.

The company's vice president said in a statement: 'As a trusted health care provider, Planned Parenthood has extremely high standards – and if there are ever questions about whether our standards are being met, we want to know about it so we can take swift action.

'If these folks really think they saw wrongdoing, which so far isn’t even apparent on their heavily edited videos, they should turn everything involving Planned Parenthood over to their state’s attorney general to get to the bottom of it.'
