Jim Carrey's on-off girlfriend Cathriona White, a 28-year-old Irish make-up artist, has committed suicide, according to law enforcement sources. She was found dead at her Los Angeles home on Monday night, according to reports, after two friends showed up at the residence to check on her. News of her death comes just five days after she broke up with the Ace Ventura actor, 53, for a second time. Miss White, originally from Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary, reportedly broke up with Carrey on September 24, the same day she wrote a worrying message on Twitter that read: 'Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest'. Her last post on Instagram meanwhile was a haunting black-and-white self-portrait (central image). It is believed that White died from a drug overdose. She also wrote on Instagram in a separate post at the same time 'Faeries, come take me out of this dull world', quoting W.B. Yeats.

Tesco has announced plans to build thousands of pocket parks, sports facilities, woodland walks and community gardens with a windfall worth more than £30m a year from the new 5p plastic bag levy.

The unnamed male motorist made it more than 30 metres down the tram tracks before getting stranded in the trendy suburb of Chorlton, Greater Manchester (pictured main). Thankfully the tram was travelling at a slow speed and able to stop in time but the entire line of Manchester's Metrolink to the airport was brought to a standstill. Passers-by told of how crowds gathered to watch as the driver eventually had to abandon his vehicle (inset).
