'Our kids became friends and they're still best friends, and we've travelled together and we had the electric connection and we got lucky,' she said.

Miss You Already tells the story of two childhood friends who remain inseparable into their adult years.

But they find their relationship is tested for the first time when one is diagnosed with breast cancer while the other becomes pregnant.

And it seems it was little hardship for the talented actresses to portray the close pals on screen, as it was clear they have formed a strong bond in real-life.

However, the film may not have happened if it hadn't been for 42-year-old Toni's convincing skills.

Drew, who has two daughters, three-year-old Olive and one-year-old Frankie, had just given birth months to her youngest child before filming was to begin.

'I had just had a baby minutes before, well like months, but it seemed like minutes - in mum terms it's minutes - and she (Collette) wrote me this letter.

'I was so lucky, I was so excited to read it and the invitation was to come and, you know, move to London and tell this story,' she revealed.

'I read it and I said "this is the worst timing and yet the best timing" because life surprises you.

'When you think you can't pull something off is when you end up, a year later, going "I had an intention I want to tell this story for my daughters when they're grown up",' she added.

And while both actresses admit there are sad moments to the film, they believe there are some strong messages in it that they want their kids to see.

'Ultimately it's a very uplifting film. I know there are some very poignant, deep kinds of heavy moments but it's beautiful and it's life affirming, and it's just a celebration of friendship,' Toni said.

'I can't wait for our kids to see this when they're a bit older. It was what we needed to do, it was very special,' Drew, who was wearing a dress by Zimmermann, added.
