Police have been called to deal with the trouble, but they are thought to be reluctant to brand the abuse as a hate crime. The problems started when Mr Hussain took part in a Channel 4 Dispatches TV documentary about the mistreatment of Muslim converts, which was screened in 2008. They were recognised by a large Muslim family living on the same street in Bradford and were immediately targeted.

Queues snaked back half a mile (left) in both directions when the pair ended up jammed in a tight-fitting passing zone. The incident happened at a point where the road narrows and signs and markings tell traffic to give priority to vehicles coming from the young man's direction. The tattooed 21-year-old, wearing shorts and t-shirt, then left his Volkswagen Lupo to argue with the bus driver at his window. This went on for an hour before police finally arrived and intervened - and other drivers raged.
