'I like dysfunction': Claire Danes reveals that she favors playing troubled characters on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Claire Danes never seems to play a 'normal' character and that's just the way she likes it.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night the Homeland actress explained why you'll never see her as the saccharine rom com girl.

'I like dysfunction and disorder a lot, as it turns out,' she admitted after Colbert asked her if she ever wanted to play something 'super light and fluffy'.

'I love everything you do, but a lot of troubled people,' noted the 51-year-old chat show host.

'My So Called Life, troubled, [Romeo and] Juliette…doesn't end well,' he laughed.

'What about a meet-cute story where you have like a service pig?' he suggested.

Fall for tweed this winter with a Victoria Beckham Dress

Our favorite spy has a certain style and taste cut apart from her peers. She's never one too make too big of a splash when it comes to the ultra low, skin bearing, super sexy but she makes a statement in other ways.

For Claire, it's all about the subtle details and this red tweed Victoria Beckham picnic dress has a lot of them!

Take for instance, the gentle asymmetric sway of her dress and the way it buttons twice at the small of her waist. The delicate puffed twist in the shoulder straps reminds us that not everything in life and especially fashion, needs to be an exact science. And while tweed fabric could be notoriously stiff, there is something about this frock that seems rather fluid.

It's just all so whimsical and flirty!

She kept her makeup simple and with a slick of red lipstick to match her outfit--she was camera ready.

Unfortunately, Victoria Beckham's resort collection is not yet available for purchase. But if you click right, you can browse her current collection at Net-a-Porter.com.

That being said, we've culled together an edit of feminine pieces in the carousel below. Have a look to see if anything catches your eye!

Homeland returns on October 4th with Dane's character Carrie Mathison living in Berlin, two years in the future.

'She's out of the CIA game, she's in the private sector…working for a philanthropist, a benevolent billionaire, she's head of security for his firm,' said the actress, whose mother Carla is an artist who makes sculptures with found objects

Colbert remarked that Carrie's new boss might be 'a Donald Trump character'.

'Yes, exactly,' said Danes, adding that the writers make the script up 'as they go along'.

'I can't give anything away…because I never know what's going on,' she tittered.

'But she [Carrie] is dating a lawyer from the firm, they're living together, it's going great, she's very connected to her daughter,' she said.

'She's kind of happy,' she added, noting that her unstable character is also taking her bipolar medication 'every day'.

'But then something happens?' predicted Colbert.

'Yes, she gets kidnapped and…' said Danes, trailing off.

The Emmy-winning TV hit centers around Danes' character, a former CIA operations officer who suspected that an American prisoner called Nicholas Brody [Damian Lewis] had been 'turned' by Al-Qaeda during eight years in captivity in Iraq.

Colbert joked about the 'crazy' opening credits to the Showtime drama that also stars Mandy Patinkin and Rupert Friend.

'Do they mean anything?' he asked.

'You look like you're doing a shot from The Shining in the summertime in some of those photos,' he quipped.

Mocking the 'crazy jazz' that Carrie favours on the show Colbert had his band play something she might enjoy.

'This is Carrie jazz,' he laughed.

'We've kind of abandoned the jazz, I'm feeling ''where did the jazz go?'',' said Danes.
