  • In the snap she is wearing a spider ring with a sign in the background

Former Playboy pinup and The Girls Next Door star Bridget Marquardt is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Nick Carpenter.

The 42-year-old E! star announced the news on Instagram on Thursday.

The engagement is not that much of a shock as the two have been together for seven years. What is a surprise, however, is that the director got down on one knee with a diamond engagement ring in the shape of a spider.

'Happy Oct. 1st!!!' the blonde wrote next to a photo of her ring. She was holding Nick's hand,

'Oh...and... Did I mention @nicholascarpenter and I are engaged?'

Her nails are painted hot pink and in the background there is a sign that says, 'Till Death Do Us Part.'

'I really haven't dated in so long,' the former reality star told UsWeekly at the time. 'I feel like I'm in high school again.'

In 2011 she told YourTango what she thinks a relationship should be like.

'I've heard that people want to marry their best friends,' the reality diva said.

'I think that should be partially true. You want someone you can sit with in sweats, plus go out with. You want them to have a lot of best friend qualities, but you want to make sure that you have the spice and passion that you wouldn't have with your best friend.

'You want the relationship to be one step beyond that.'

After her former housemate Holly Madison wrote a book trashing Hugh Hefner and life at the Playboy mansion, Bridget stood by the beauty's side.

She refused to criticize the book or even say that there were inaccuracies.

All she said was that she was friends with Holly and was glad she wrote the book.

'Bridget and I were always very much two peas in a pod,' Madison said. 'We were very close friends and shared a lot of the same frustrations.'
