Meet Australia's undercover movie star who throws herself from buildings, gets hit by speeding trains and is set on fire daily on the job.

Inge Sildnik, who has worked as a stunt double for the past 14 years, regularly disguises herself as Hollywood stars for movies like The Great Gatsby and Mad Max Fury Road.

The 37-year-old from Glenorie in Sydney said while some may consider her career choice crazy, she has been hooked from the very first moment she stepped onto a movie set.

'Our day shooting may involve anything from precision driving to car chase scenes, getting hit by the car, fighting, being set on fire, falling off a galloping horse, strung upside down on wires, swimming in freezing cold water, jumping or falling off a building,' Ms Sildnik told Daily Mail Australia.

'To me this is normal and just part of the job - an everyday occurrence.'

She said being a stunt double involves a lot of travelling, long hours and physical challenges.

'We may spend weeks prior to shooting, rehearsing a stunt, and as we are often made to look like another person so we spend a lot of time in hair and make-up,' she said.

Most notably, Ms Sildnik was the stunt double for Riley Keough who played Capable in Mad Max and Carey Mulligan as Daisy on The Great Gatsby.

She was filmed in a car crash scene in Jay Gatsby's yellow vintage car and spent six months filming in South Africa for Mad Max where she drove huge trucks and performed crashes.

She has also worked on Hollywood sets including the Gods of Egypt, The Moon and The Sun, Superman Returns and Wolf Creek.

Ms Sildnik regularly puts her body on the line for stunts like getting hit by a speeding car and running on top of a moving truck.

'Over the years I have had an ankle reconstruction, broken knee, dislocated hip, stress fractures, dislocated shoulder, broken wrist and knocked myself out a few times,' she said.

'There are always bumps and bruises and sore muscles when you work.

'I have had a few injuries on set but most of my injuries have been while training, as this is when you try new things and push yourself to your limits.

'I need to keep myself fit, flexible and ready for anything.'

Her love of action and excitement stems from her active childhood living on a farm in Sydney.

'I grew up on acreage with horses, motorbikes and cars. As a family we were always doing something like water or snow skiing so my childhood was very active,' she said.

'I also participated in activities like gymnastics, dance and martial arts. I think it was my parents' way of having a break and trying to tire me out. But I loved it.

'When I finished school I went to university to study dance and as soon as I graduated I moved to London to Dance professionally.

'I loved living in London but also felt the need for a little more action and excitement so then moved into the worlds of film and TV to work as a stunt actress.'
