'Are you f****** kidding me?' Simon Cowell is jeered by live X Factor audience as he bemoans having to mentor the over-25s

He is playfully known as Mr Nasty.

But Simon Cowell's reputation appeared to hit a momentary new low for viewers of Saturday's X Factor, which saw the judges assigned their contestant groups.

The 55 year-old music mogul was jeered by the crowd at London's Wembley Arena after failing to disguise his disdain for getting the over-25s.

The gaffe - bleeped out by ITV bosses - came as co-hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack revealed the public decision on who should get what's considered the competition's trickiest category.

As they announced that Simon would oversee their performances he scrunched up his face and swore, shouting 'f***'.

Adding insult to injury, he then stormed over to the presenting duo and demanding to see the printed results on their prompt cards.

When they confirmed his fears he looked visibly annoyed, saying to the audience: 'Thanks a lot, everyone' - which caused a sea of boos.

Not least because the over-25s watched the outburst live, leaving them feeling royally rejected.

Clearly fuming at the result, some Twitter users hinted that it was a karmic response to him always giving the category to former co-star Louis Walsh.

One posted a message which simply said: 'Simon, you don't seem to be loving it now you have the overs? #spoketoosoon'.

Moments before the reveal Simon's fellow judges - Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw - had all stated their desire to have the girls, the boys or the groups.

And, naturally, they got their wish. Rita was given charge of the girls, while Nick will be pushing the boy power as Cheryl go-gos the groups.
