Funny, emotional... even intimidating: Klopp oozes charisma but it is his past with Dortmund that makes Liverpool a good fit

Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool FC: German oozes charisma but can also intimidate

Jurgen Klopp expressed willing to accept a new job last week, providing context for the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. It now seems certain that job is Liverpool. Fenway Sports Group promised a decisive appointment and Sportsmail understands executives have already sounded out the man who experienced such exhilarating success with Borussia Dortmund, receiving a positive response. Clearly, the result of the Merseyside derby was irrelevant for Rodgers. A spirited 1-1 draw at Goodison Park is no disgrace worthy of guillotine reaction.

Watch Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher comically react to Brendan Rodgers' sacking at

The shockwaves from Brendan Rodgers sacking as Liverpool manager prompted priceless reactions reactions from Sky pundits Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher. Rodgers was axed following a disappointing start to the season, which has seen the Reds win only one of their last nine games, culminating in a 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Arsenal's 3-0 defeat of Manchester United was already causing surprise before news of Rodgers' fate reached a Sky Sports studio at the Emirates to catch both a Reds legend and usually unflustered Frenchman off guard.

Reporters Q&A;: Klopp or Ancelotti? Were Liverpool right to axe Rodgers?

Rooney's drop in form, players out of position and a thumping from Arsenal... so, does Van Gaal even know his best XI?

Manchester United's best XI: Does Louis van Gaal even know his strongest line-up?

MIKE KEEGAN: What a difference a week makes. Seven days ago, Manchester United fans were heading into work with a spring in their steps. Top of the league after a 3-0 dismissal of Sunderland. This Monday, however, is a different story. A 3-0 hammering at Arsenal (and let's be honest it could have been more) and Louis van Gaal's men are down in third. It left the Dutchman claiming he was staggered by his team's lack of will to win. But a lot of United fans will tell you they saw this one coming.

Moeen Ali out for 22 in England opening audition in tour match against Pakistan A

Moeen Ali put in an inconclusive audition as a prospective Test opener on the first morning of England's two-day warm-up match against Pakistan A. England's Plan A, based on selection here, appears to favour Moeen over Alex Hales as Alastair Cook's new partner for the forthcoming three-Test series. But a patchy 22, before a mis-pull at Zia-ul-Haq on a slow-motion surface in Sharjah, left England surely requiring more evidence about Moeen's suitability for the task ahead.
