She was a blonde in her career-defining roles as Cinderella and Lady Rose MacClare in Downton Abbey. 

But it appears Lily James is looking to change things up for her forthcoming roles as the 26-year-old actress showcased her new brunette tresses when she stepped out at the Harvey Weinstein photocall on La Croisette in Cannes, France, on Monday.

The Oscar award-winning director held a special buyers-only screening of 20 minutes of footage from the upcoming BBC miniseries War and Peace at MIPCOM.

And, as always, leading lady Lily put on a sophisticated display in a double-breasted floral playsuit in a pretty teal shade.

The short style was the perfect choice to flaunt the Burnt actress' petite frame, thanks to its nipped-in waist and mid-length sleeves. 

The British star teamed the look simply with black heels and decided against accessories.

Of course, her glamorous outfit was slightly overshadowed by Lily's new brunette tresses.

While the star has opted for a darker mane in the past, it seems her latest style is her darkest yet with the natural beauty wearing her locks in a softly tousled style around her face, which had been enhanced with a neutral make-up palette. 

Meanwhile, Lily's latest TV series will see her star in another period drama.

Revolving around five aristocratic families, the story, which is set during the reign of Alexander I, will heavily centre on the love triangle between Natasha Rostova, Pierre Bezukhov and Andrei Bolkonsky.

The series marks the first collaboration between Harvey's The Weinstein Company and the BBC, though the movie mogul hinted that it could be one to be repeated. 

'We’re in serious discussions,' the director told Deadline, about a deal on a new co-production with the BBC.
