Missy Elliott sued by concert promoter for 'skipping Brazilian TV network appearance to promote 2012 concerts'

Missy Elliott was sued by a concert organizer for allegedly failing to promote two concerts in Brazil.

The 44-year-old rapper according to the lawsuit allegedly skipped a scheduled appearance in November 2012 on the national Brazilian TV network Rede Globo, according to an article on Monday by TMZ.

Elliot was supposed to appear on the wide-reaching network to promote two shows scheduled later that month in Rio and Port Alegre, the lawsuit said.

Concert booker Jean Faustin alleged that Elliott's failure to appear harmed ticket sales and forced him to cancel the concerts.

Faustin claimed that he paid Elliott a $75,000 deposit to perform.

He was seeking reimbursement of the deposit plus interest.

Elliott's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Grammy-winning singer last month perfomed at the Bestival music festival on the Isle of Wight.

It was her first performance in the UK in six years.

Festival organiser Rob da Bank, 44, told Radio 1 Newsbeat that Elliot had twice turned down his offers to play.

Elliott recently teamed up with Janet Jackson, 49, for the new single Burnitup! on Jackson's eleventh studio album Unbreakable.

Jackson on Friday relased a lyric video for the song featuring Elliott.
