While it may seem bizarre, sources for the publication say Stamos was using the drug as a fitness supplement.

Their insider claimed that the star was using the narcotic sedative to 'lean out body mass' as he prepared to film his new TV programme Grandfathered.

GHB is commonly used by bodybuilders as a dieting aid which also helps one help a level of sleep to aid in muscle recovery.

At the hospital it was determined by police that Stamos had been driving under influence, and he was arrested. Police cited him for DUI and released him to the care of the hospital.

Shortly after his release and the incident was reported, John took to his Twitter to post: 'Thanks to everyone for their love & support. I'm home & well,' Stamos tweeted late Saturday morning. 'Very appreciative of the BHPD & Cedars for their care.'

Ironically, the They Came Together hunk had tweeted: 'A s***-ton of moderation is the key to life' just four days prior to his DUI.

Less than a month later in July, Dailymail.com confirmed that Stamos entered a treatment programme for substance abuse. He successfully completed the 30-day live-in treatment.
