Shane Warne: I can be England's spin doctor... and I'd love to nurture Adil Rashid
- Shane Warne has confirmed he's open to coaching England's spin bowlers
- The Australian legend is also keen to work with Yorkshire's Adil Rashid
- Rashid is poised for Test debut when England face Pakistan
Shane Warne is open to coaching England’s spin bowlers.
The former Australia international, who took 708 Test wickets, is particularly keen on nurturing Adil Rashid should England persist with the Yorkshire leg spinner beyond this tour against Pakistan.
Rashid is set for a Test debut in Dubai on Tuesday having impressed during the one-day international series against Australia this summer. He toiled in the drawn warm-up with Pakistan A on a turning pitch but did take three wickets in Thursday’s second friendly.
Shane Warne is open to the possibility of coaching England's spin bowlers in the future
The Australian cricket legend is a big fan of Adil Rashid and would love to work with him
Warne would be open to filling a role similar to that of Mahela Jayawardene, who is in the Middle East as a batting consultant. To add Warne to the mix would represent quite a coup for fellow Australian Trevor Bayliss.
‘I’d love to work with Rashid if the opportunity arose. 100 per cent,’ said Warne.
‘There’s been a lot of spinners I’ve helped over the years and I’m more than happy to talk to anyone.
‘England have done pretty well with Rashid - they haven’t rushed him. I would’ve liked to have seen him play in the West Indies before the Ashes - there was an opportunity there.’

Warne, who took 708 Test wickets, would be an excellent addition to the England coaching staff
Warne is currently readying himself for a three-game Twenty20 All-Stars series over in America next month in a joint venture with Sachin Tendulkar, but is ready to take the call should England ask in the future.
The selectors are ready to name Rashid alongside premier spinner Moeen Ali next week, and Warne believes the time is right for the 27-year-old to be given a chance.
The spin bowler is congratulated by his team-mates after claiming the wicket of Sami Aslam
‘He seems to be bowling pretty well. It’ll be great to see how Alastair Cook handles a leg spinner,’ Warne added. ‘It’s exciting. I think in my last year of county cricket Michael Vaughan, when he was captain of Yorkshire, asked if I could do him a favour and have a chat with Rashid.
‘He was pretty young then but I had a good chat. He’s a pretty impressive kid, he’s been on the scene a while now.
‘Let’s hope he grabs his opportunity because it’ll be great to see England have a leg spinner.’
