The talented American actor got comfortable with the majestic four-legged creature in the rustic-themed photoshoot for the October issue of the men's monthly.

In the accompanying article, Norman discussed his beloved fan-favourite character on the highly-popular AMC programme as he insisted that not even Daryl is safe from being killed off.

The talented actor explained: 'They'll kill me whenever they want. I would hate to leave the show. I would play this role until I'm 80, I really would. And I could.'

As Daryl is normally kept to himself and has not had a romantic interest on the series, many fans took to the Internet to speculate about his sexual orientation, which only increased when he befriended the The Walking Dead's openly gay characters.

Though creator Robert Kirkman clarified his character was straight, Norman explained his character's openness to others like Aaron and Eric is the reason why many fans are drawn to Daryl as he said: 'Daryl judges people not just by what they say but what they do.

'Stand-up people are the only people you can trust in that world, so that makes Daryl a very compassionate person. And that's one of the reasons that character is popular.'

Compassionate: Several fans questioned his Walking Dead character's sexual orientation especially when he sprung up a friendship with openly gay character Aaron (played by Ross Marquand) as Norman explained: 'Daryl judges people not just by what they say but what they do'

In the photos from the feature, Norman could be seen rocking more contemporary country-inspired chic looks including a sleek brown leather jacket and a black Western shirt.

On the actual cover, the Boondock Saints actor looks dapper in a long grey cashmere coat over a matching sweater with a diagonal stripe pattern and khaki trousers.

His devotion to the show has even cost him a big movie role as he almost starred as George Clooney's father in Tomorrowland but his long hair would have had to been shaved for that to happen, which is a crucial part of Daryl's look.

He said the decision came at the last minute which he believes upset director Brad Bird as Norman commented: 'I'm on a f***ing TV show! I can't just shave my head!'

Admiration: The talented actor gushed about his co-star Diane Kruger - pictured together in an Instagram snap shared by Norman last month -  in upcoming drama, Sky, as he said 'It was hard not to fall in love with her'

One role Norman did get was opposite Diane Kruger in upcoming drama, Sky, as he said he adored the longtime partner of actor Joshua Jackson during filming.

'It was hard not to fall in love with her,' he said. 'You know it's going to end when they yell "Wrap!" But you fall in untouchable love. It's more of an admiration.'

Norman also discussed his modelling career in the late Nineties with print and commercial gigs with brands including H&M, Gap and Levi's.

Multifaceted: Norman had an early career as a model as his ex Helena Christensen - pictured together in April 2002 in New York - helped him get gigs. They have a 16-year-old son named Mingus together

Most of the gigs were booked with the help of his former girlfriend Helena Christensen, who is the mother to their 16-year-old son Mingus, as he said:  'A lot of things I got offered were with her. I just followed her lead.'

He also discusses being famous, his parents leaving him as a child,  a 2005 car accident as he belived the injuries would be the end of his acting career and the three short films he directed which are sold on his website.
