She was first catapulted into the limelight at the age of 22.

Sharon was pictured leaning over a picnic bench in the half-naked image posted to both her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Wielding a wooden polisher, the Will & Grace star looked into the camera lens over her glasses with a teethy grin on her face.

Sharon explained exactly what she was up to in the accompanying caption which read: 'Labor of love...Refinishing the picnic table my dad made for me before he passed... (sic).'

The Basic Instinct leading lady no doubt hoped to inspire body-confidence among women of a similar age by posting the snap as she's spoken about her struggle to accept the ageing process in the past.

It worked a treat as she was inundated with complimentary comments from her followers.

'Looking great you should post more pictures daily,' one wrote with another adding: 'You r a beautifull women (sic).'

Back in 2014, Sharon opened up about how she came to accept the effects of time, admitting it had been far from easy.

In an interview with Shape magazine, she said: 'There was a point in my 40s where I went into the bathroom with a bottle of wine, locked the door, and said, "I'm not coming out until I can totally accept the way I look right now".

'And I examined my face in the magnifying mirror, and I looked at my body, and I cried and cried and cried. Then I said to myself, "You're going to get old now. How do you want to do that?"

'And I thought, "I'd like to age like a dancer". I want to keep my body in shape like that. I want to do the work. I like to dance and stretch. And I like going to the gym.'

Back to the modern day and Sharon is still celebrating a glittering career both on and off-screen.

Just last week, she was commended for her tireless work against AIDs at The National AIDS Monument Benefit in Hollywood.

The award-winning star has been an AIDs activist for over 20 years and frequently works alongside amfAR, the Foundation for Aids Research.

Additionally, she is gearing up for a return to the small screen in a new series of action-drama show Agent X in which she plays Vice President Natalie Maccabee.

She said of the show: 'I wanted to do a series for quite some time because I'm a single mum and I wanted to work at home in LA and in our country.

'It just takes time to turn down the things that aren't right and it takes a lot of discipline and integrity until you get to the good thing.'
