Nigella Lawson cinches in her waist wearing a business-like suit jacket and skinny jeans to promote new cookbook... as she brands 'clean eating' philosophy 'disgusting'

She built her empire on being a domestic goddess.

So Nigella Lawson no doubt prides herself on being an authority on all things food and culinary - a point she made very clear as she spoke on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour on Friday.

The 55-year-old caused shockwaves when she blasted the term 'clean eating' - just hours before she appeared at the Cheltenham Literature Festival to promote her new cookbook.

Nigella, who burst into the public eye in 1998 with her first cookery book How To Eat, looked sensational at the event where she was plugging her latest tome - Simply Nigella.

The stunning star looked every inch the serious author in a chic black blazer with a high-necked top underneath.

In-keeping with her dark ensemble, she wore tight black jeans and sexy knee-high boots which gave her look a polished yet edgy feel.

Her trademark brunette locks were worn in a flattering centre parting and the ends were styled into bouncy curves while her make-up was kept simple with a strong brow and a lick of mascara being the stand out features.

She said: 'I think behind the notion of "clean eating" is an implication that any other form of eating is dirty or shameful... I don’t like extremes. I think that’s the real truth.

'I think that food should not be used as a way of persecuting oneself and I think really one should look to get pleasure about what’s good rather than either think "Oh no, that’s dirty, bad or sinful" or "eating is virtuous."

'I also don’t like people thinking their better people themselves for the way they eat. We make choices for ourselves either for our health, delight, according to our income, according to our taste buds, but I don’t think it should ever be a status symbol.”
