He made his name as one of the world's biggest football stars.

And David Beckham returned to where it all began on Friday night as he played a match with his son Beckham and One Direction star Harry Styles at Manchester's Old Trafford stadium.

The 40-year-old hunk, who retired from the game three years ago, took to Instagram to share an image of one young mascot along with the team of 14 men - which included Brooklyn, 16 and 21-year-old Harry.

David, who is seen wearing his old Manchester United strip in the snap, is set to return to Old Trafford to play a charity match next month to raise funds for Unicef.

The handsome star was joined by a host of fellow football enthusiasts, as well as his best pal Dave Gardner, whose partner is Liv Tyler.

He kept his head protected against Manchester's autumnal breeze with a stylish black beanie while sporting trendy blue and white Adidas trainers.

David added the caption: 'Nice way to warm up before the big game at Old Trafford ... Can't beat a kick around with mates...'

In the photo he can be seen looking up at Harry as they appear to share a joke and he added the caption: 'Fun night with these lads'.

Dave [Gardner] also shared the picture - before revealing he was struggling to get around the day after kickabout as his age was catching up on him.

He added the hilarious caption: 'Great match but tomorrow I think I will be walking like John Wayne....Getting old!!!!'

David announced the match on Nick Grimshaw's Radio 1 Breakfast Show earlier this month.

He told the radio host: 'It's something I've very excited about. I retired three years ago and I never thought I'd actually be getting my boots out again and playing. It's amazing.'

It is little wonder David was joined by Brooklyn for his pre-match prep, as the pair are practically inseparable.

Both David and Brooklyn constantly use their respective social media accounts to share images of them hanging out, including shots showing them fishing, exercising and hanging out with the rest of the Beckham clan including mum Victoria and four-year-old Harper, Romeo, 13, and Cruz, 10.
