Jordan Spieth and US Presidents Cup team recreate Zoolander's 'Blue Steel' pose in hilarious photo... and they're so hot right now!

  • US are taking on International team in the Presidents Cup in South Korea
  • The American team posed with their WAGs for a group photo, and adopted the 'Blue Steel' look
  • The pose was made famous by Ben Stiller in cult comedy film Zoolander
  • Patrick Reed also recreated his Ryder Cup shush pose with former President George W Bush

If there's one thing we've learned already about the United States team at the Presidents Cup, it's this: they're so hot right now.

Just take a look at their team photo taken ahead of the biennial tournament against the International team. Notice anything unusual?

You might spot that it's not just the most fashion-conscious players and WAGs who are putting on a serious pout, but pretty much the entire team. Why? Because Phil Mickelson told them all to recreate the famous 'Blue Steel' pose from the film Zoolander.

The US Presidents Cup team and WAGS make their 'Blue Steel' pose: (top row, from left) Bubba and Angie Watson, Matt and Sybi Kuchar, Jimmy and Erin Walker, Chris and Tahnee Kirk, Patrick and Justine Reed; (middle row from left) Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky, Phil and Amy Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas, Jordan Spieth and Annie Verret, Zach and Kim Johnson (bottom row, from left) Davis Love III and wife Robin, Jim and Tabitha Furyk, Jay and Jan Haas, Fred Couples and Nadine Moze, Steve Stricker, JB and Erica Holmes

Mickelson and his wife, Amy, led the way, nailing the intense eyes, clenched jaw and pouted lips made famous by Derek Zoolander, the world's most 'really, really, ridiculously good-looking' male model.

World No 1 Jordan Spieth and his girlfriend, Annie Verret, joined in the fun with some passable 'Blue Steel' faces, while Rickie Fowler almost made a passing impression of a real male model in his sharp blue suit and red tie. Open champion Zach Johnson, however, should probably stick to the golf course, with his odd half-smile proving why the pose that took Zoolander to the top of the fashion world is so hard to perfect.

Dustin Johnson made a good fist of it, but it was a shame that super-glamorous fiancee Paulina Gretzky seemed unwilling to join in, like two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, whose wife, Angie, was among the best.

But it looks like Zoolander might soon have some serious competition on the catwalk, judging by Matt Kuchar's inspired version of the pose.

Meanwhile, Patrick Reed recreated his famous 'shush' pose from the 2014 Ryder Cup with George W Bush. The controversial American rising star put his finger to his lips to quieten the home crowd at Gleneagles during an impressive debut in golf's biennial extravaganza, and the former President looked delighted to play along, despite his nation's humiliating defeat in Scotland last year.

The US have an opportunity to salvage some pride after their hammering from Europe in the Presidents Cup, which begins on Thursday at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, in Incheon, South Korea.

The American side take on the International Team, which is made up players from the rest of the world outside Europe, having won eight out of the 10 editions of the match play tournament.

And the side captained by Jay Haas took a commanding early lead by winning four of the opening five foursomes matches to take a 4-1 lead, with three days of competition remaining.

Bubba Watson and JB Holmes set the tone for the day by dominating their opening match against Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, taking the lead after the second hole and never relinquishing it before winning 3&2.

The South African pairing of Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace levelled up the scores in the next game, winning by the same scoreline as the opening match, but that was as good as it got for the International team as the United States claimed the final three points of the day.

Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker were the biggest winners as they brushed aside Anirban Lahiri and Thongchai Jaidee 5&4 in the clash between four Presidents Cup rookies.

The American duo, who halved three and lost one of their Ryder Cup matches together last year, were three up after four holes following a hat-trick of birdies from the second, and although India's Lahiri and Thailand's Jaidee fought to stay in contention, the outcome was rarely in doubt.

Three more birdies on the 10th, 11th and 13th put the American pairing on the cusp of victory, and they secured it on the 14th.

Spieth and Dustin Johnson were similarly clinical in disposing of Danny Lee and Marc Leishman 4&3, back-to-back birdies on the opening two holes giving them a lead they never surrendered.

The only match to go to the 18th hole was the fourth one that pitted Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson against Jason Day and his fellow Australian Steven Bowditch.

The USA duo led for all but four holes and were two up heading to the 17th, but a 40-foot birdie putt from Day gave the International duo a chance to salvage a half on the last.

However, world No 2 Day was unable to repeat his heroics with the putter on the 18th and the USA won two up to cap an almost perfect day for Haas' men.
