Randy Quaid was taken into custody on Friday night while trying to cross the border into the United States from Canada, Vermont State Police said.

The arrest comes just three days after Canadian Border Service Agency officers took Quaid into custody for being a flight risk after attending a regular check-in.

An Immigration and Refugee Board member ruled he was not a flight risk on Thursday.

The Independence Day actor, 65, is wanted in Santa Barbara, California, to face felony vandalism charges filed in 2010 after he and his wife, Evi, 52, were found squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned.

The pair skipped several court appearances and went to Canada, where Evi, whose father is from Canada, was granted citizenship. Randy Quaid's bid to gain permanent residency was denied.

The actor was released on Thursday when the Immigration and Refugee Board ruled he was not a flight risk

Meanwhile on Thursday, Randy's brother Dennis Quaid was attending the Annual Hamptons International Film Festival for the screening of his new film Truth, which also stars Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford

Quaid said in an interview from a detention center in Laval, Quebec, on Wednesday that he wants to resolve his legal issues in California and 'move on with my life'.

US Customs and Border Protection agents detained the Quaids at the Vermont port of entry at about 8pm on Friday after determining they were fugitives from justice and subject to extradition, State Police said.

A judge set bail at $500,000 each. Randy Quaid was being held at the North West State Correctional Center and Evi Quaid at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.

Attempts to reach an attorney for the Quaids were unsuccessful early Saturday.

Following Quaid’s Tuesday arrest, Evi released bizarre footage of the couple, purporting to have been filmed earlier this week on their wedding anniversary, October 5, in which she rants against the government while arguing with her husband.

In the profanity-filled footage, Evi attacks Barack Obama, John Kerry, and the Santa Barbara State Department, accusing them of fraudulently taking her passport.

While she speaks, husband Randy, sporting long hair and an unruly beard, can be seen waving his arms and apparently carrying out stretching exercises.

Randy Quaid's bid for permanent residency in Canada was denied in 2012, and it can take years for deportation to follow.

He was arrested in Montreal in May after becoming the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant when he stopped checking in with border authorities.

He later apologized and was released, with the requirement to check in every two weeks.

The actor and his Canadian wife fled the United States in 2010, saying they were victims of persecution.

Quaid has sought to stay in Canada, saying he was being hunted by 'Hollywood star-whackers' who 'killed his friends David Carradine and Heath Ledger'.

The couple's current legal problems in California stem from a 2010 arrest when they were charged with trespassing and causing more than $5,000 in damage to the guesthouse of a California home they once owned.

At the time, the property's owner accused them of smashing a $7,000 mirror and replacing it with a giant picture of themselves, among other acts of vandalism.

They were allegedly squatting in it when they were arrested. Two days before they were charged, they traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia, where they claimed asylum, saying they feared for their lives because a 'star whackers' cult was trying to kill them.

They claimed eight other celebrities, such as David Carradine and Heath Ledger, had died in 'mysterious circumstances' and feared they would be next.

Santa Barbara Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter said on Wednesday there is an active extradition order for Quaid on a felony vandalism case, and prosecutors would be seeking his extradition if he's returned to the United States.

Carter said Quaid and his wife also face felony charges for failing to appear at a November 2010 court hearing while out on bail.

Randy Quaid is the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid and is best known for his roles in films such as National Lampoon's Vacation and Independence Day.

While Randy was at his immigration hearing on Thursday, Dennis was attending the Annual Hamptons International Film Festival for the screening of his new film Truth, which also stars Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford.

While still missing from authorities, Randy and Evi uploaded a disturbing series of videos in which they ranted against Rupert Murdoch before having sex on camera

He told the Associated Press that the couple's behavior, statements and videos they've posted to social media, including a sex tape, are a way of expressing themselves.

In the video uploaded earlier this week, Evi also praises Donald Trump, tipping him to be the next president and complimenting him for 'telling it how it is'.

The couple then take it in turns to address the camera and vent their anger at the perceived injustices they have suffered, until Randy asks his wife to stop filming.

Perhaps having a moment of clarity, he tells her: 'All right, let's stop vomiting about this s***, can we just enjoy our time here? We should do it in a more proper setting.'

She then jumps to anger, saying that talking in a park while drinking shows they are 'competent , peaceful, happy people'.

Randy then interjects again, complaining that 'it doesn't', adding: 'It sounds like we're doing a little ranting, OK? Ineffective, ineffectual ranting. You're saying the same thing over and over again.'

Clearly fed up with his dissenting, Evi then shoots back: 'You're not Trump, and you'll never be Trump! You're not capable of being Trump.'
