'I've earned my stripes!' Kate Winslet says she feels relieved to have made it to age 40 during chat with Ellen DeGeneres

It's a milestone that signifies for many an end to their youth but also a ripened maturity.

But for Kate Winslet, who celebrated her birthday on October 5, turning age 40 feels like an accomplishment.

The actress appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday to talk about the landmark.

Ellen began the chat with a cheer: 'Happy belated birthday to you!'

'Thank you very much,' the Titanic star said warmly.

The 57-year-old quickly cut the chase, asking how it feels to have turned 40 years of age.

She came prepared: 'I mean I have to say I was gearing up to it,' Kate admitted. 'I was getting ready for it.'

'When you get to 40 and you’re like yes I’m there! I really do have that feeling so yeah it’s lovely.'

Meanwhile, Kate has been busy promoting her new film Steve Jobs, with the highly anticipated film delving into the dark side of the iconic Apple founder, in which she plays Mac developer Joanna Hoffman.

Written by The Social Network and The West Wing's Aaron Sorkin, the film goes behind the scenes of three iconic Apple product launches, and ends in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac.

It will be released on October 23 in the US and on November 13 in the UK.
