Out of thin air! Mesmerising footage shows passenger jets emerging through dense fog while landing at Manchester Airport

  • Heavy fog caused delays and diversions for hundreds of passengers
  • Pilots had to wait for clearance to land due to extremely low visibility
  • One flight, from Chicago to Manchester, was forced to divert to Dublin

Plane spotters have captured mesmerising footage that shows aircraft emerging from dense fog that shrouded Manchester Airport and caused frustrating delays for passengers.

This 40-second video clip shows a Lufthansa passenger jet appearing almost out of nowhere as its engines rumble in the distance.

It occurred while visibility was down to less than 600ft and planes were forced to wait for clearance from air traffic controllers – creating a backlog as aircraft circled in the skies overhead.

The eerie scenes played out yesterday while the weather conditions caused delays for flights in and out of Manchester, and a handful of diversions, the Manchester Evening News reported.

By the time the heavy fog cleared up later in the day, hundreds of passengers were running up to three hours late.

Poor weather conditions weren’t exclusive to Manchester Airport, and they were blamed for delays or diversions at other airports in the UK.

At one point yesterday morning, an easyJet flight from Alicante, Spain, to Liverpool John Lennon Airport was forced to divert to Manchester.
